I am re-watching the game now. He missed badly with his FB in the first. He could have had 3 home runs against in that first inning alone. The only one of those that was not TERRIBLE was actually the one Marte hit out. He missed his spot, but just missed the ideal height on that pitch by maybe a half inch or so.
Yup. Hard contact In 1st inning. I thought he came back out and settled in after that.
The way he is using his slider and curve together is some solid manipulation. It does appear that the 70/80 grade cutter that he had a couple years ago has been sacked. FB playing in the mid 90's right now in the 3rd, slider is upper 80's and curve is clocking in consistently at 83. Command still waivers a bit, but that plays along with his consistancy issues that have plagued his career.
Yeah, I am sure he had some serious nerves to get out of the way, but looked good after that. Jesus, if he all the sudden figured shit out at the same time that May and Gray are, good fucking luck.
I feel like he is REALLY changing the depth on his slider well and sometimes morphs it into a cutter which was causing the issues for the D'Backs trying to line it up. He has never been a big K guy and it is a major reason why when he is having a bad day, he gets hit HARD, but when he is on it causes a lot of balls just off the barrel.
So something that has dogged his career, his velo will vary and in the 5th it was definitely down a couple of ticks to the first couple of batters and at only being in the mid-50's that is somewhat worrisome(though he is likely not close to built up), but he got it back up against Lamb to retire the side. That was a really impressive 5 innings from the kid. God I wish he could put it all together.
It was one batter, but boy did Ramos do Marte dirty with that change.
Random thing I have picked up is that Joc has looked 1,000 times better against LHP's in the restart. He is staying on them and does not look like a dude that wants to be platooned anymore.
I am getting nervous about Lux. Him missing so much time did not help and he has looked AWFUL since coming back.
all star in 16 he sure looked sharp for one batter
would be a nice surprise if he could hold his shoulder together
He looks like a dude who wants a nice contract...
Mookie looks good in Blue
Treinen has nasty stuff and Seager is just locked in
so nice to talk about something other than the madness in the world
fans should be able to attend games even if its 6' between families
From Ken Gurnick’s opening day roster predictions:
Agree on Treinen. Very encouraging, although his attempt to catch that jam shot back at him was pathetic. Looked like a 5 yr old playing catch for the first time.
not making excuses for the guy but that jam shot had some wicked backspin on it
Well, the team looks flat out awesome in this bizarro world, so far. I know it's ridiculously early to wax superlatives, but I know what I see. Lots of changes coming probably, even in this shortened freakzoid season.
One thing that remains inexorably the same though, like sunrise and sunset, is that the balls and strikes calling remains an unchanged steaming pile of shit...an annoying, head shaking blight on the bb landscape.
At this most perfect time to finally rid the game of this pox of incompetence, take advantage of the almost perfect technology existing for it, it stands like the rock of Gibraltar.
Welp...@MMoreno1015 #Dodgers announce they optioned Gavin Lux.
Not a surprise, he has looked TERRIBLE
