Meh, winter meetings are time to explore and expand possibilities, plenty of time to negotiate extensions after these opportunities pass. Why would you go to Florida to discuss deals with players already tenured? That's what January and February are for.
Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 20mSources say #Dodgers' primary concern in Kemp trade is quality of return - and team is willing to include cash to get better players.Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 21m#Tigers, #RedSox, #Mariners have all been in touch with #Dodgers about Kemp this week, sources tell me and @jonmorosi. I wonder what kind of package we would get from the Tigers.
Tigers are now in on Kemp. They are trying to keep payroll down to resign Miggy and Scherzer. Doesn't seem like much of a match, but their top prospect is a solid hitting third baseman.
That would be a team that would probably be willing to throw in good prospects to get us to cover a big chunk of his contract. Have to think that any talks would start with Castellanos. That is a weak system though and I doubt we could pry Castle and Rondon away from them.
MLB Network just said that along with the AL teams already mentioned, 2 NL teams are going hard after Kemp. They believe, due to their sources, that a deal will be done for Kemp before the end of the meetings.
This makes me anxious, nervous, scared, excited, and curious all at the same time. I don't want Kemp to go but if he is traded then we better not be selling low on him.
So it sounds like the team is being so quiet right now thanks in large part to Juan Uribe. They must have a few different deals on the table that meet certain needs and are trying to figure out 3B before doing anything else.
I watched but as often been said throughout all of this site, small sample size. Look at his career. Again he pinch hit alot and that's not what he's used to doing. He's also by reputation is a consummate professional which strikes a balance to the craziness and silliness of the team.
I really don't want Kemp to go. Even with the injuries, we've seen the guy grow in front of our eyes. It would leave a bad taste in my mouth if we won without him. But the point is to win, so I'm with you on that if we trade him, we better not sell low.
Don't even want to know what the backlash would be if we moved Kemp and he went somewhere like Detroit, bounced back and won a title this year.
I don't understand the point you're making. He hasn't been good for a couple years and he's not going to just magically hit .300 with 200+ hits ever again. He's a replacement level (probably worse) player with terrible defense, doesn't have any sort of power, and is a double play machine.
You wrote for 3 or 4 years Young hasn't been good and I posted stats to the contrary. 2011 he received MVP votes and was an all-star. As for your comment about him magically recapturing his glory years that is true but neither would Uribe. If you look at the other 3rd base options out there Young is just as good an alternative as any. Defense is an issue for sure which makes it complicated but not out of the question.
I don't believe Uribe will repeat last season, but at least he just came off of a year where he was worth 5 wins and played gold glove defense. Young was good with the bat in 2011, but it really doesn't help your point. The very next year, Young was the worst position player in the game. He is a terrible defender, a slow runner, and offers next to nothing with the bat.
