i take it you didn't see the report where Wilson said he'd return to LA in a non-closing role if he were paid like a closer? Wilson is all about LA and the bright lights. and the newest report says the Dodgers are all about Wilson...as they should be. he's really good and the beard is marketable ( it'll play in a major way in LA going forward)...you can pretty much take his beard to the bank. which is probably the biggest reason why he wouldn't shave it off for any charities. he wasn't shunned either...you were right about that much...DET had serious interest as well as other teams initially.
It's not all about you, 4ev. But this is great news. A one year deal to prove he still has it, and it helps our bullpen which can be shaky at times.
assuming LAD and Wilson close this deal, seems we have Kenley-Wilson-Withrow-Paco in place... who knows what they do with League now? they have the money to pay him to go away and open up a valuable spot...maybe they should do it. pay 75% of his deal and send him to the Orioles or somethin. lol guys who will probably get looks; Howell, Onelki, Dominguez, Elbert ( at some point next year)...who else am i missing? you know, Axford might not be a bad signing as far as experience goes...he can still gun it up to 98mph...just sayin
that Wilson wouldnt come back if he had a legitimate closing offer on the table, which for the information that is out, he didnt... he will come back on a 1 year deal to regain his market value... smart move, but its not him giving us a discount or anything... I say its gonna be 1y/$8M with a $10M mutual option and $1M buyout...
I know the feeling... you are like "shit, how was this even possible" and then you realize that it was the rest of the world who had it wrong... and you laugh about how they are looking you oddly...
i'd love to have a power lefty to go along with Paco...maybe Onelki. but then again, Paco didn't prove to be reliable for us in the post season, so maybe they need a reliable lefty to go along with Paco? kinda tough to bring up Onelki and call him reliable as a rook, but it'd be fuckin great if he did become reliable. we had ties to Axford at the deadline last year...maybe he can be the wild-card righty. he's a hard throwing big guy. Beckett or Bills as the long man. Beckett probably won't like it long term, so have him be the guy until Bills is ready in May or June and then make Beckett the 6th starter/spot guy...this is assuming our rotation looks like Kershaw/Greinke/Ryu/Tanaka/Haren
Ah that's true. Especially if we sign another starter, I like Bills in the bullpen to build up arm strength
well he's not gonna throw 200+ innings as a starter and is gonna be on an innings limit. I'd rather those first innings he starts building up his arm strength happen in the bullpen instead of 4-5 innings a start. Then he can build it up and transition into a starter if need be in August/September.
well the Tigers obviously went with Nathan, but from the info that was out there, DET eyed Wilson as a real option to be their new closer. i mean for a while now that's who some fans thought would be stealing Wilson away. regardless, the very 1st report that came out was one where Wilson said he'd be fine with a non-closing role with LAD so long as they paid him like one. that's just trying to milk a rich Dodger organization that's hungry for a title. fact is, Wilson loves Los Angeles and all the attention that comes with being a Dodger in LA. i know it's been said a million times, but the Dodgers really don't need any discounts...look at the overpay for League. they didn't have to do that. a 1yr deal seems like the Dodgers saying " prove you can sustain over a full season, Wilson. " his work ethic is great and he's a good locker room guy. only thing to question is whether or not his level of play dips over a full season of work and what he does over that time frame will prove if he's worth a multi-year offer. DET probably made a 1yr offer to Wilson as well and he likely wanted more, so they just gave the multi-year deal to Nathan who's been healthy for a longer period of time and has had more recent success as a closer. that'd make sense.
