It's not ridiculous nor just a homer's opinion. If you believe in the stat WAR (Wins Above Replacement level):

    Joc: 1.9
    Ethier: 1.0
    SVS: 0.5
    Puig: 0.2
    CC: 0.0
    Heisey: 0.0

    Kemp: -0.2

I'm all about WAR, but let me ask you a question, would you rather have Kemp or CC on your team?

throw Guerrero in there too @ a 0.9 WAR since he's played a solid LF.

    Kemp said he wasn't a 4th outfielder..

    how's about 6th? Hahaha

I kinda forget what Freddy Lynn looked like Irish. I'm sure you're spot on. I hope he turns out to have a career like him though....

Honestly, whichever one is cheaper and off the books quicker. At this point in their contracts, that's CC.

I'm shocked you say that because for me it's Kemp, hands down and not even close. $3M less a year means almost nothing for the. Dodgers.

Anyways, my point was WAR is a good stat, but to look at it without context is a giant mistake. Kemp is a much better player than CC and I genuinely don't think it's close.

for real..neither one would be in the plans for next year and both would be on the bench.

Really like the lineup today; we score at least 5 runs and win.

Not a bad day lineup. Grandal is seeing the ball well so hitting him 2nd is solid.

I mean at this point we're arguing about a couple .1 point differences between WARs. We'll have a better gauge as the season progresses.

Yeah, You see, I hate sabermetrics, especially the WAR stat (does anyone even know how that is calculated?). I like to go off of factual stats, like how often is he getting hits/getting on base and driving in runs. And Matt Kemp is doing good in both those. And for NZ to say a guy who has played one game in the majors this season has been better than Kemp (Heisey) is ridiculous.

but I don't believe in it. I don't put much stock into it because no one knows how it is calculated and every site (ESPN, fangraphs, baseball ref) has a different WAR for the same players. For instance baseball reference, Crawford is at -0.2, and Kemp is at 0.2. They have Puig at 0.5, SVS at 0.7, 1.1, and Joc at (well, they still are too lazy to update Joc's page), And Heisey has played one game. His WAR is likely going to be 0.0 no matter what.

You hate them because you don't understand them. That's ignorance no offense given. It's fine to not understand something but to say that you hate or disregard them is something else.

To be honest, i don't completly trust dWAR because 1) it's still a small sample and 2) the metric itself is hit or miss and prone to high error probability. Kemp's negative WAR is mostly because of his shit D. But since his dWAR has been bad for the last 4 yearsish, I think there's enough precident to say he's bad.

    .
It is ignorance, because it makes no sense. Different sites with different WAR calculations for the same players, it isn't a finite stat (see post above yours), and for example, how does Josh Donaldson have a terrible fielding % with one of the highest amount of errors in baseball and still have among the highest dWAR's in baseball last year?

My point is that it IS bad to use WAR right now and that all things being equal, do you really think that CC is a better player than Kemp? Fuck all the metrics, just watch a game, see the impact someone has over the course of several games and you really think CC is a better player?

Again, I think using WAR at this point of the season, with such small sample sizes is ridiculous. I also, obviously opinion, think that Kemp is a far superior player to CC and I'd take him in a heartbeat over CC, ZERO DOUBT in my mind.
