I think McCarthy is a really decent pitcher and his wife is really hot but 4 years? that's some very meh'ness right there... I hope he kills it the next 2 years though. meh.
Definitely a concern. To be fair, he pitched 200 innings last year, so he's coming off a healthy year. And part of his problem in 2012 and 2013 was the affect of a comebacker to the head. I like that Zaidi has history with him. He was the A's opening day starter in 2012, and there's potential for him to be really good if he can put/keep it all together. I don't think it's going out on a limb to say he has legit #2 starter potential.
Clause in the contract states that his wife must flash the fans at Dodger Stadium at least once per every start. Worth it.
Seems like a universally disliked deal. Brandon has a chance to be a solid #4 or possibly the best #5 in baseball depending on who else is added to the staff. Either way that deal is at least one year too long.
I like it. I'd much rather have McCarthy as a #5 than Haren....but we have to add one more SP to put him in the 5 slot.
My guess is that the Dodgers had interest at 3 years with Mac but so did a lot of other teams, so McCarthy was probably waiting out a bit and comfortable in waiting to see if a team offered more money or years. Then the Dodgers knew the Dee/Haren move was goin down and maybe they thought they needed to ensure they at least had 1 starter they could get right then and there to replace Haren, to not risk needing to outbid everyone for 2 different free agent starters later into December. So they bit and gave McCarthy his 4th year to sweep away the competition and bam Just a guess
