Winston is only very good to people that watch Alex Smith caliber QBs every week.
Out of about 22 legitimate starting QBs in the NFL, Winston is middle of the pack, can't argue w/statistics.
    Potential to get better?
Probably, and as always, that potential and flashes of good play will have some overrating his current standing every now and then..like now.

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr isn’t expected to make a speedy recovery after suffering a broken fibula against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday.
But well-known orthopedic surgeon Dr. Robert Klapper isn’t counting out Carr from returning this season.
Klapper hinted that Carr could possibly return to the field for a Super Bowl appearance if Oakland is able to make it to the big game.

#RAIDERS.Cannot anticipate how quickly#CARR will heal no matter how well Surgery goes. If SUPERBOWL is likely DONT COUNT HIM OUT!

6-8 weeks recovery time, too bad they'll have to beat Denver this week and receive miracles (plural) in the post to even sniff a AFC title game let alone the SB.
SB date almost hits the 6th week of recovery on the nose, so although not impossible, highly improbable and would probably unfair to him to even start him in a game of that magnitude after 6 weeks of non-game activity.
Could've been worse, of course..could've been the type of fracture Mariota has - needing a steel rod, or worse than that - achilles/knee ligaments, but Carr not getting playoff experience could still set the team back a season regardless.
Could've gotten that playoff experience this year and been a playoff tested guy going forward.

Don't think it'll have much of an effect either way. Not a La'el Collins type situation

Del Rio disappointed Aldon Smith won't be reinstated
by Frank Schwab | Shutdown Corner — 3 hours ago

The Oakland Raiders seemed to be expecting a late-season boost from pass rusher Aldon Smith, but the NFL won’t reinstate him this season.

Raiders coach Jack Del Rio didn’t understand that decision.

Smith was given a one-year suspension last year after an arrest for DUI, hit and run and vandalism last August. Multiple reports Friday, including Pro Football Talk, said commissioner Roger Goodell has decided to not reinstate Smith this season. Goodell will revisit the case on March 15.

“Little disappointed, honestly,” Del Rio said, in his press conference that was posted by 95.7 The Game. “Feel like, from everything I’ve gathered, obviously it’s not my job to make a ruling, but from everything I’ve gathered he’s done his duty to take of all the things he needs to take care of. I see some of the guys that have been allowed back and my question is, what’s the difference?”

The NFL has long had a problem with the perception of uneven punishments, and one can understand why Del Rio would be frustrated.

“When a guy has a chance, he should have a chance to make a living,” Del Rio said. “I don’t really agree with what’s going down, but it’s not my job.”

When the NFL decided to not reinstate Smith, it meant he will go from Week 9 of the 2015 season to at least Week 1 of 2017 between playing a game.

If the Raiders figured on a few snaps from Smith in the playoffs – and judging by Del Rio’s comments, they did – it won’t be happening.

Do the Raiders ultimately remind anyone of the Dodgers? I mean in the hunt, but always a dollar short and a day late...
If it's not a collapse of an elite superstar pitcher who just can't seem to get it done, it's an elite QB who can't walk at the worse time imaginable...
    It's always somethin'...
