Liked the last sentence. Too bad about Correa he's one of the most exciting players in all of MLB.

Coming out of an off-season where Hill was probably considered the top arm available on the market, we came into this season feeling like LAD would grab a starter at the deadline.
And then of course AF is never done with the pen.
Pretty sure LAD opened the season as World Series favorites, so most expected them to be buyers at the deadline..just basically been sitting back to see who's gonna suck enough to sell to them for a reasonable price because what they won't be doing in unloading the top of their farm for meh like SFG did last deadline

Martinez is a dud. Don't get your guys hardon for him. McCutchen on the other hand in left is an upgrade. Despite his annoying body type, those numbers are impressive. He's also been branded a superstar for years, the switch to L.A would just seem right. He's no boring Reddick or Forsythe. L.A would suit him.

Only problem is @THINKBLUE and his racism. And, it would essentially push Gonzalez out the door. Not a problem for me though.

    Martinez is a stud offensively.
McCutchen would be nice tho, yes.

This is the national league son. Our pitching staff don't need an albatross manning a position.

Yeah, I was not trying to be a dick with that, but their division is shit right now and they have been able to feast off of that. I would hate to see us claw through our top heavy division(with our biggest rival being shitty, but contenders when they play us), only to miss out on a game cause they had a cake schedule down the stretch.

In another piece of news from something I read today was... and this may raise some eyebrows..... the Dodgers are not only telling clubs that Verdugo and Buehler are untouchable. Apparently they're also telling clubs a firm no on Alvarez as well. I understand it from the point of view that A. they have paid him a lot of money and B. everyone still raves about the ease in his mechanics. With that said, it is going to be hard to land major impact players without dealing one of those 3. Going to be interesting to see how the FO handles this deadline.

So if Verdugo is off limits I wonder if that means a position player Puig/Pederson/Taylor/Ryu/Maeda would be on the move?

Not sure anyone would want Ryu and Maeda right now...maybe Maeda. But Chris Taylor and the current Puig seems kinda steep.

Im not saying we are trading all those guys, but that if our top prospects are off the board then any trade is probably going to be headlined by a current position player with prospects to fill.

I've heard Trayce Thompson's name mentioned in trade rumors.

I can still see us trading for a top RP without giving up any of those 3 (even Britton could be had for what we have after them), but it might be tough to compete for a SP like Sonny Gray.

Gray's no longer the guy where you pluck 1 of the 2 best pitching specs off of one of the better farms in the game anyway, team control be damned.
He's pitched into the 7th inning 4 times in 14 starts so far this year..that's not a 1.
Back in 2015 this guy pitched into the 7th inning 16 times over 31 starts, so you can see very well that he's not proving to be that guy anymore.
    Alvarez for 2015 Gray?
    In a heartbeat.
    But he gone.
At least until he proves otherwise.
Hell, Gray just took 5 fingers across his face from Houston a few weeks ago.
Definitely sit tight on Alvarez in regards to Gray

It's the depth that makes this system one of the better one in the MLB. I think you are getting hung up on the fact Alvarez is rated as our #1. We have a plethora of pitching depth in the system and if you take Alvarez away Buehler likely goes to our #1 pitching prospect. Stewart, Sheffield, White, Alexy, Oaks, Abdullah and May just to name a few. You have to give to get and it's WS or bust this year. The biggest criticism of this FO is that they don't go for it and I support that when you're talking about a guy like Hamels because of his age and contract but Gray is ONLY 27 and is on the cheap in comparison. If you're using Houston as an example that he's not there yet you'll have a VERY long line of examples to look at this year.

To be fair though, you are more adverse to trading prospects than most around here.

I put Gray's value roughly around the same range as Quintana. The A's won't get what the Sox got (because the Sox use some kind of black magic), but a lot of teams are interested in Gray and if he returns even 70% of what the Sox got for Quintana, then it's hard to imagine we can make a serious run without Alvarez in the package.

It is what it is, I guess. All I know is, Alvarez isn't pitching game 4 of any series this year and we are one injury away from pushing Kershaw on short rest again in the post.
