This we agree on 100%. If I want a hitting prospect to develop, I'll put them in AA. If I want them to build confidence or have their stats look good to another team, then Albuquerque it is. Conversely, no way I send my good pitching prospects there.
My 1 or 2 bad outings quote wasn't disputing that he was shiit for us it was merely pointing out that he didn't have the chance to right the ship after those outings. He started only 5 times for us (76 2/3), hardly a fair chance. The Pirates showed confidence in him that if he was shit that he would get the chance to redeem himself. We couldn't wait obviously and now he has been pretty good for the Pirates. By the way he is a local kid and maybe just maybe he was trying too hard to perform in front of family, some guys cannot handle it.
Loney and Rivera are bad, but if Sands was definitely a better option he'd be up here. No doubt about it. Just cause Sands has the prospect label doesn't mean he is better. Think about this: If Sands was in the MLB starting in 2011 (and probably struggling up to this point cause sorry to say, he isn't good) and Loney was an AJ Ellis in the minors and he was CRUSHING the ball in Triple A cause even John Lindsey crushes the ball (and FYI: James Loney would put up as good and I say better numbers than Sands is in Triple A) then everyone would be seriously calling for Loney to be in the MLB and Sands back to Triple A just cause Loney is a spec and we haven't seen him. Blf, I understand that you see Sands stats and you see Loneys stats and you say, man why can't Sands be up here? But a stat sheet is only a part (and who knows how much?) of evaluating a minor league player. It's not the same as MLB. There are talent evaluators far more talented than everyone on DSP combined who can look at Sands and make a better estimate as to what he is. If they thought he was a legit, definite upgrade over Loney/Rivera then he'd be up here. It's not like the front office hasn't been looking for an upgrade at 1B, they have. If they thought they had one in the minors, he'd be up. But that's not saying I'm defending Loney cause he is a pathetic sack of shit and I'd love to see anyone else but as bad as he is, Sands is not, as far as we can absolutely tell, a definite upgrade.
JMac proved some people wrong for 3 months, but now he's almost off the rotation being JMac again... without going thru the 7 pages of posting, I think our best option is to move Ethier to 1B and try to get an OF... the FA market for 1B is extremely thin and neither Sands or SVS are the answer... if they were, they would be playing...
kinda hate to move a GG OF, rather move him to LF (Kemp to RF, Shane to CF) but if it improves the team overall...
If the only big FAs are OFers, so be it. Green moved to first, and so can Dre. There aren't any first baseman to get. So make one if you can improve the offense.
He's considered a GG because he won it...but he really shouldn't have. Well that's probably what these haters mean. I personally think he's pretty damn great out there these days. One of the best improving players on defense I've seen. Go lick sacks h8ers. :finger:
Andres one of the only handful of players I can remember actually improving his defense as he got older. He was terrible before but these past years has gotten better routes. His speed is what it is and his arm is good but his routes were brutal and are now significantly better
The only way Andre moves to 1B is if we get a big OFer. And in that case, we would be adding significant offense. Who cares where that offense comes from? I'd rather sign Hamilton and move Dre to first than sign a C lister just because they play 1B. The market is what it is.
I agree with this, I'm just saying Dre as a 1B is not something I get excited about. Honestly if we signed Hamilton then I'd try to trade Ethier for a 1B.
Nobody is taking his 85 M. There are so many players around the league that put up Dre numbers or better for a fraction of the price.
