Bronson Arroyo and the Dodgers have had discussions since Masahiro Tanaka chose not to sign with Los Angeles, tweets Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The level of interest remains uncertain, Heyman notes. I guess Nedco was telling the truth. I am still not a fan though his splits vs. NL West are okay. If you read Do The Dodgers Really Need Another Starter? from Petriello You get the idea that maybe the 5th spot can be in flux due to random/lack of usage. Right now, our rotation is dependent on Ryu avoiding a sophomore slump and Haren pitching like he did in the second half of last year. We shall see, I guess.
^Hey, I forgot about the new DodgersDigest. Yeah, Petriello says Arroyo would probably want a multi-year. Maybe that's no problem for the guggmen. I like MP's schedule breakdown - we won't need a 5th starter until April 19. We could probably smuggle out another Cuban by then.
One has already been smuggled out (See post #359 by SFD in this thread), we just haven't signed him. Yet.
one of these days it's gonna be time for Zach Lee to step up and be the 5M dollar man. maybe that time is this year as our #5? maybe Stripling jumps over him? either way...i'd be good with adding a vet like Arroyo. Honeycutt has done a remarkable job at getting the best out of guys...i mean he even gave Billingsley a heart right before his arm fell off.
three years? fucken delusional  According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, Bronson Arroyo has been looking for a three-year deal or at least a vesting option for a third year, which could be holding up his market. If Arroyo was willing to settle for a flat two-year contract, Cafardo opines, he could find a deal, possibly with the Diamondbacks; Cafardo reported earlier this week that Arizona was "beginning to kick the tires" on the veteran right-hander. Arroyo recently said that he has yet to receive a concrete offer from any team, despite a lot of interest from around the league. The Dodgers are another team who "are very interested" in Arroyo but don't want to give him a guaranteed third year. __
meh, thread worthy for now Dodgers "very interested" in free agent starter Bronson Arroyo but won't go three yearsby Drew Silva | NBC Sports Hardball Talk -- 1 hour agoFree agent starter Bronson Arroyo expressed frustration last week about the lack of legitimate offers he's been made this winter. But it seems as though his market is now developing rather quickly.Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Dodgers are "very interested" in signing the veteran right-hander and that the only hang-up is Arroyo's desire for a three-year deal. The Diamondbacks are similarly interested; they also won't go three years. One of the most durable pitchers in baseball, Arroyo registered a steady 3.79 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 32 starts last year for the Reds. He has totaled more than 199 innings in each of the last nine seasons.Los Angeles would appear to have a full rotation with Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Dan Haren and Josh Beckett all locked in for 2014, but Haren has battled chronic back issues and Beckett is coming off surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome — the same condition that ended Chris Carpenter's career. __
Meh, pass, especially if it's over a year. He is better than Beckett, but not enough to be stuck with him multi-years.
We don't give a pick for Arroyo. And he's better than people are giving him credit for, in a pitchers stadium he would be very respectable. And remember, he's bottom of the rotation, it's not like he's got to carry the team. Remember a couple of years ago everyone was glad we could choose between Cappy and Lilly for the 5th guy? Well, Arroyo is better than both of them...combined. Like I said, if we could talk him into a one and one deal I'd take him in a heartbeat.
If he was gonna be the 5th starter, I would say ok. But Haren was supposed to be the 5th, so now one of those 2 is the 4th. Thats when it could start getting ugly.
http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2...nt-go-three-years/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs 2 years or nothing, it seems.
