every guy who hits 30 HR's doesn't have a history of substance abuse
every guy who hits 30 HR's doesn't have an addictive personality/disorder
can't say he's juicing for sure, but you certainly can't say he isn't
I do agree with you about the unfairness of the suspicions/judgements but, because of what's come to fruition, it's almost presumed guilty until proven innocent.

He gets tested three times a week in compliance with his previous suspensions.

Probably the ABSOLUTE best source of payroll considerations available.
Notice the deferred payments and the payroll for 2014. Hamilton PLUS PLUS is within our price range. Pretty sad what McCourt did with all the fucking deferred payments shit. He did his best to handcuff us for years. The luxary tax is set at 178K. In essence, in 2014, we will have almost 100,000 to spend on contracts before we hit it. Next year, we will have around 55,000k. We could potentially lock up three or four and put off the vast portion until the second year when our deferred payments drop off.

I could see the following: Hamilton 21mil, Hamels, 18mil (goes up to 24 the next year), Encarnacion 9mil,

And that same graph can be used against Ned Colletti: 22 million going out this year to guys that aren't even on the team anymore. But maybe that belongs in the other thread, so nevermind...

3 guys locked in for 5+ years in the same outfield WON'T happen. Next.

Stupid logic that I hope the organization isn't using that approach. Not signing him is one thing, but that is a dumb reason.

Pretty sure the Yankees have done it multiple times before. Maybe not the entire outfield, but most of their team.

    So?

It's dumb logic whether it's been done before or not.

It's about improving your team and if the best player in MLB is on the open market and you decide you want him, you don't balk at it because he happens to be an outfielder. It makes no sense. What's the problem? You want to spread the offense all over the field? Well that aint happening. We aren't getting what you can get out of a Hamilton from a 1Bman or 3Bman on the trade or FA market. Look at the market.

Just improve the team wherever the circumstance takes you. I'm struggling to see why having 3 guys locked up for 5+ years is a bad thing just because their positions are next to each other.

I am totally fine if the organization passes on Hamilton, but if having all our offense coming from the OF is their reasoning, it'd be a dumb reason. I too would love to get some balance on the diamond. But balance isn't everything. Just improve the team.

It's not dumb logic if it hasn't happened in the history of the game, it's good business sense. I just don't think the Dodgers will want him. It will necessitate a position change for him as well. If it happens I'd be extremely surprised. If I were an outfielder in our farm system I'd be asking for release or position change. You may pass on the really good outfielder during a draft as well because you will have closed off the OF. Just my .02 cents but I just cannot see it happening.

What if you're a catcher in the Cardinals system? Or a first baseman in the Tigers organization? Or an infielder in the Yankees organization? It's the same thing.

4th OFers. Injuries. Trades. Position changes. You still need/can use good OFers in your system.

You are right. I got nothing, lol. I was basing my thoughts from the Dodger perspective and a business standpoint. I just don't see us hamstringing ourselves not in money but in years like that. Would I love Hamilton yeah. He ever play left or would we move Dre there an have him play right?

People would talk about the Dodger Outfield of the 20-teens the same way they talk about the Dodger Infield of the 70's.

Josh Hamilton has played LF in over 2/3 of the Rangers' games this season, and 237 times in his career. And of course Dre played LF in 2006 and 2007 when he first came up, then fought with Juan Pierre for LF in 2008. Fielding an OF with those 3 would be no problem.

Lets not forget Hamilton/Dre/Kemp will most likely switch up DH'ing next year (if we get Hamilton of course).
