Losing out to the Tankees is that real important thing???? All due respect but the field is a lot more important. As for Miller I am disappointed too but I have to hope there is a lot more things to happen soon to lessen the sting. As for Lavarnway the Sox gave up on him too soon and he could be that under the radar AND Butera wore number 31 and some guy out there wears that number. :D

Ugh, sucks we didn't sign Miller. Still hope we pick up Lester and then bolster the BP in another way.

    Jon Lester Rumors: Friday
By Steve Adams [December 5, 2014 at 3:54pm CST]

The Cubs, Red Sox, Giants and Dodgers are believed to be the top four suitors for Jon Lester, who reportedly isn’t expected to make a decision prior to the beginning of next week’s Winter Meetings. We’ll keep track of today’s Lester rumors here…
    • Ryan Dempster, who joined the Cubs‘ front office today, has been in contact with Lester and talked up how great it is to pitch with the Cubs, writes ESPN Chicago’s Jesse Rogers. A source familiar with the Lester negotiations told Rogers that reports indicating a $130-140MM offer from the Cubs are actually low. Lester is expected to top $150MM, Rogers writes, and if a team “blows past” that number by adding a seventh year or bidding $160-170MM, Chicago is likely to bow out of the race.

good luck to Miller. at least he didn't go to the Cardinals..good man.

Robertson got a QO from the Yanks and costs a draft pick..you bet your ass they're not spending a draft pick on a reliever

I'm confident League/Wilson is exactly why we wouldn't go to 4 years for Miller.

Kemp's good buddies with Fielder, his hometown's right up the road and game cheques would look a bit sweeter in Texas..wouldn't surprise me if Kemp were happy to go to the Rangers.

meh. package Uribe with Kemp and demand Beltre in the deal. bring Tolleson back, Forbes who's a good 18yr old 3B/SS prospect and maybe one more spec.

Too much Kemp chatter to believe this is all speculation and no deals have been discussed BUT I WOULDN'T TRADE HIM. I know he's our best commodity but we'll have a huge hole in our line-up regardless if this is a "pitchers" era.

    • You will find executives who say the Dodgers are only in this to bid up the price and make sure the Giants pay a premium if he goes to San Francisco. And you will find those who say new president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman saw enough of Lester when he was Rays GM to love the pitcher and that one of his key aides, Josh Byrnes, was with Lester in Boston and is a big fan.

I keep telling myself that there's no way a team could let go of the chance of a Kershaw-Greinke-Lester(or Max)-Ryu rotation

I mean, you do that and an offense based of Puig/Kemp/Adrian still has you as an elite team

LOL How great it is to pitch with the Cubs... It makes me think of all the super star pitchers they have had over the past 70 years. Pitching with the Cubs is great if you love lazy flyballs turned HRs, or the fans fucking up routine foul balls.

Your missing the point by a wide margin.
And now that you brought it up, yeah losing out to the Yankees does have some importance. Yeah it does. Or any other team that gets a player we want/need or are going after...is this rocket science? especially after 20 posts about how everyone runs scared when the Dodgers are after someone now.
The field is a lot more important? What field is that? the BB diamond?
I thought Miller would be helping us walk off of it victorious a whole bunch of times...if that's the field you're talking about.
Yeah, Laverne could be the next Johnny Bench or he could suck and be the next Butera.

Not really sure what topic this fits on, but Yasiel Puig will be on the cover of MLB the Show 15.

Laverneway won't be the next Jonny bench..he is an upgrade however from our current backup...and I'm glad we didn't go 4 years for a reliever...I don't care how good the dude is right now. Those deals come back to bite you.. bully arms are hard to count on for extended periods of time. Glad we passed.

Yup just like last trade deadline all chatter from reporters and fans responding, nothing did happen nor a trace of anything having happened.
