    so?

actions speak louder than words..the Dodgers just got rid of a few stars/big personalities that only would've only helped in keeping the immediate buzz around the viewership of the product, so no i don't think they're in the process of succumbing.

because you know what creates bigger buzz than stars? winning and consistency. the group is obviously buckled in for the long ride.

well, you highlighted the fact that Walter and Kasten didn't comment on the rumor, so it remains a rumor. however, if it were true..the Dodgers only have South Korea's top athlete pitching for them. still..do you know how many owners " borrow " money to buy franchises? perhaps the most successful business/sports model in SoCal history began with Jerry Buss getting help from Donald Sterling in his bid to buy the Lakers. and the Lakers have had minority owners come and go over the years and they've spent money to improve the product, made big money, and done pretty well with the on court product i'd say.

basically, relax. the Dodger business model was never to have a payroll of 250M for 10-20 seasons. question for you..how's the farm looking? it's one of the more solid farms in baseball right now and it may soon get a very expensive, young Cuban named Moncada added to it. we're doomed!

Nah heres some more news reported info for forum participants to form their own independent thoughts on the topic of Dodger ownership finances.
    http://www.truebluela.com/2015/1/22/7874759/dodgers-ownership-group-south-korea
The reports estimate that the group so far has raised $370 million (400 billion won), which is less than one-fifth of the purchase price three years ago.

"The consortium [of Korean investors] was formed when one of the five joint owners tried to sell his shares," a financial investment official told Kang Byong-Chol of the Korea Joongang Daily. "The deal is expected to be worth about 400 billion won, which is 20 percent of the total cost three years ago, and is set to be concluded before the season starts in April."

The biggest question in all of this is finding out exactly which partner wanted to cash out, and without knowing the complete breakdown and distribution of shares that makes this a difficult exercise.

UPDATE: Bill Shaikin of the LA Times in December 2012 broke down the $2 billion investment (the other $150 million went into a joint venture with former owner Frank McCourt regarding the Dodger Stadium parking lots):

$100 million: Guggenheim Partners Chief Executive Mark Walter

$100 million: Guggenheim Partners President Todd Boehly

$100 million: Texas energy investor Bobby Patton

    $50 million: Magic Johnson

$25 million: Mandalay Entertainment Group Chairman Peter Guber

    $412 million: Debt assumption

$1.213 billion: Guggenheim Partners insurance companies controlled by Walter

you should 1) relax on the highlighting and 2) include all of the facts from that article if allowing others to form their own opinion is your goal:

The Dodgers were the first major league team to broadcast a game in the United States in Korean, in 1990, and have long been a popular team in South Korea. In 1994, Chan Ho Park became the first South Korean-born player in major league history when he debuted with the Dodgers.

In 2014, thanks in large part of the popularity of South Korean star Hyun-jin Ryu, the Dodgers broadcast 70 games on Radio Korea domestically, and had the final 157 games of the season available on television in Korean as a secondary audio option.

    you left that out.

janssen to jansen does have a nice ring to it...

ESPN’s Jim Bowden Believes Dodgers Are Best Fit For Casey Janssen
by Matthew Moreno | Dodgers Nation -- 4 hours ago

In similar fashion to which the Los Angeles Dodgers addressed their starting rotation, they’ve retooled the bullpen without lavish spending. Rather than handing over $36 million to Andrew Miller or signing Zach Duke to a three-year deal, the Dodgers completed trades that landed them Chris Hatcher and Joel Peralta.

While both Hatcher and Peralta are welcomed additions for a bullpen that faltered last year, particularly in the postseason, the Dodgers are said to be in search of a late-inning reliever. We examined Francisco Rodriguez as a potential option, though ESPN’s Jim Bowden believes another reliever would fit well with the Dodgers.

Bowden ranks Casey Janssen as the fourth-best free agent available and explained why he believes the right-hander should make a return to Southern California:

"The Dodgers accomplished many of their offseason goals, including an improvement defensively, upgrading clubhouse chemistry and getting younger, with Joc Pederson and Yasmani Grandal ready to shine at the major league level. However, let’s not forget it was their bullpen that got them sent home last October, and they haven’t done enough to improve it this offseason. Sure, there was the pickup of Joel Peralta, but he also saw his ERA balloon to 4.41 in 2014 (even though his FIP was a more respectable 3.40). Also, Peralta’s average fastball continues to decline, as does his curve ball. Chris Hatcher and Juan Nicasio were both solid pickups with power arms, but neither has a proven track record.

It’s possible that Janssen could be signed at a bargain rate. He has 90 career saves and a lifetime 3.52 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, all of those numbers while pitching out of the often-challenging AL East. He was dominant from 2011 to 2013 and could bounce back this season. If he proves healthy, the Dodgers would be his best fit, especially considering he has expressed a willingness to set up for Kenley Jansen and doesn’t need to close."

Despite beginning last season on the disabled list, Janssen appeared in 50 games, making it the fourth-straight year he’s pitched in at least that many games. The 33 year old has also earned 81 saves over the last three seasons with 10 blown saves.

Selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth round of the 2004 draft, signing Janssen would be another attempt by the Dodgers to turn a closer into a setup man, which hasn’t been met by rosy results thus far. Another potential cause for concern is Janssen’s ERA and WHIP have risen in each of the last three seasons.

Brandon League joined the Dodgers as a closer, but struggled and eventually lost the job to Kenley Jansen. Since that point, League has been inconsistent in roles ranging from setup man to mop-up duty. Brian Wilson was effective after signing with the Dodgers in 2013 and he appeared to solve the setup-man dilemma.

However, once the 2014 season rolled around Wilson looked nothing of the reliever he was when he joined the Dodgers, and he was released in December, three days after being designated for assignment. The Chris Perez experiment was another that didn’t work out in the Dodgers’ favor.

Considering that Janssen is on record as saying the Dodgers are a team he’s interested in pitching for and it doesn’t appear as though he’ll command an excessive salary, it could lead to the UCLA product joining his hometown team.

    LOVE THIS!!!

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/los-angeles-dodgers

    • Two former Rangers ballplayers are among the recent moves reported by Baseball America’s Matt Eddy (links to Twitter). The Dodgers have signed righty Ben Rowen, a 26-year-old righty who cracked the Rangers’ pen last year and who has had solid results in the upper minors. And the White Sox signed center fielder Engel Beltre, a defense-first player who has struggled to produce offensively and missed most of last year with a fractured tibia.

Guy has a a career 1.72 ERA in the minors, fucking awesome. Great signing that may go unnoticed, but may pay off huge.

i don't believe you can separate one from the other, but maybe you misinterpreted what was said there...

The Dodgers have announced that starting with Friday’s home opener against the San Francisco Giants, they will become the first Major League Baseball team to have Korean-language Secondary Audio Programming (SAP) available for every game.

Last season, the Los Angeles Lakers, who like the Dodgers, have their own Time Warner regional sports network, became the first NBA team to broadcast every game in Korean. I profiled the two announcers and their rather inauspicious studio during one of the first assignments:

To find the Korean broadcasters, you have to open the door to a small storage room, half of which is used to keep lights and cameras. With no producer, no engineer, and no staff, the announcers watch the game on a TV smaller than most of us have at home.

The Dodger announcers – Richard Choi and Chong Ho Yim – will broadcast from the stadium, but as with the Lakers, the Dodgers are trying to broaden their appeal to L.A.’s second biggest minority. There are more than 300,000 Koreans in the greater Los Angeles area, 70 percent of whom don’t speak English at home.

i'm down with this. the nerds missed on Neshek earlier in the off-season. nice comeback here.

on the Casey Janssen topic, though..dude had a weird/tough season last year. started the year with a back strain, which probably stymied his K/9 in the 1st half, but he still got guys out while dealing with it. did so to the tune of a 1.23 ERA/1 walk/.217-.226 BAA and OBP/0 HRs/.0864 WHIP in the 1st half of the season. so even though he was dealing with a strained back and had lost his K feel at that point, he was still respectable in the AL. is he over the back issues? we can only guess there and of course we would like our late inning guys to miss bats ( however, on the flip side, the nerds have put together a damn good infield defensively..maybe they work well together? maybe not?)

but then Janssen went on a trip to the Dominican and reportedly either got food poisoning or just some sort of crazy stomach virus and wasn't nearly the same in the 2nd half. all his numbers just took a nose dive from there. he was bad. anyway, Friedman was in the AL East with the guy and was close enough to the situation to make the right call. hard to say if he'll ever be effective again if there's a back issue and/or lingering health problems from the virus. he wants to pitch to for the blue, but that doesn't mean jack shit if he sucks. no sad cases around here..the nerds want performance, as we all do.

That guy is really easy to dislike and I like the set up of the bullpen where Don doesn't have to worry about name relevance in where he positions them. Not saying K-Rods name value would definitely force Don's hand in having him as a set up man but seems likelier with someone like K-Rod rather then Chris Hatcher or some shit

But at the same time, the bullpen could use as much talent as possible, just wish there was something quieter and just as effective as K-Rod

KRod is certainly a douchebag, but I'll take him on the field if he's anything like he was last year.
