I'm just thinking out loud here. Justin Upton, next off-season, watch for it. Dump CC and Ethier, make our LF and have Upton, Joc, Puig. He'd be a perfect RH power bat that we need.

Forum rumor has it Upton has a lousy defensive WAR and not worthy of the new Dodger Blue. At least that's what's being said about him as a Padre.

Jake (Los Angeles): True or false: Corey Seager has Evan Longoria-like upside?

Top 101 Chat: Why limit him? If he hits his ceiling Seager could surpass Longoria.

    OH YES

He'll K a little bit in the bigs (like Longo) but he has a better hit tool potential than him. I think he's a 6 hit meaning .285-300 where Longos career avg. is .271. Pair that with 6 power (25-32 homers)...

    6 hit/6 power/7 glove at 3rd, 5 at SS/ 6 arm/ 55 run (he's a good base runner) and you have yourself a better longoria

I know you work for that other team now, but what's the word on Jose De Leon? Do they think he truly has mid-rotation potential?

Asking because supposedly the Dodgers have contacted Amaro about Hamels recently and if they think De Leon is the real deal maybe they offer a package involving Holmes, Barnes or Kike Hernandez? Or maybe De Leon himself gets offered up as the centerpiece? Who are they higher on? I get that Holmes is ranked higher, but I've seen that he's not a lock as a starter..may be a reliever in the end.

Dodgers Among Teams That Remain In Contact For Cole Hamels
by Vincent Samperio | Dodgers Nation — 3 hours ago
    [IMG]
Despite their denial, the Dodgers continue to be linked to an All-Star starting pitcher from the NL East. Since the All-Star break last season, the Dodgers and Cole Hamels have been a popular rumor. With a few top prospects in the organization and the ability to acquire a game-changing starter, the Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies seem to be a perfect match.

According to Jayson Stark of ESPN, the two teams continue to talk, but aren’t the only ones:

"Hamels’ partial no-trade clause allows him to block trades to all but eight teams. And four of those eight teams — the Padres, Rangers, Dodgers and Cardinals — are said by sources to have stayed in contact with the Phillies on Hamels of late."

With the San Diego Padres recently signing right-hander James Shields, that could lessen their desire to make a move. The Phillies could just decide to hold on to their former World Series MVP and wait for an injury or desperate contender to bring them a bigger deal. It appears that the biggest hurdle for a deal has been the Phillies’ asking price and willingness to eat some of Hamel’s salary.

Dodgers’ general manager Farhan Zaidi recently expressed his desire to keep the team’s top prospects, which could hamper a potential deal. As it stands, the team has a rotation of Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Brandon McCarthy and Brett Anderson, but the back end of the rotation has durability issues. If the quintet can stay healthy, they will compete to be one of the best rotations in the game.

As the season nears, it appears less and less likely that a deal for Hamels will be made.

I can understand smaller outlets like Fangraphs and Baseball Prospectus, because those people have to get paid somehow; but a huge company like ESPN? Lame. They also make it the most expensive out of the three also. @TheKnockdown has insider I think.

I bought ESPN mag for 4.99 for a year (26 issues) on like discount mags and it comes with insider. I just have to wait for them to send the first magazine so I can sign up. But not a bad deal at all

Yes, mid rotation is the ceiling. He popped up late in the season

No way it's just De Leon or Holmes as the centerpiece. It would need to be one of the big three and I simply don't see that happening anymore

Also yes the Realistic role for Holmes is a closer and a good one, but his ceiling is a #2 starter
De leon's realistic role is a late-inning reliever and is ceiling is a #3
to answer the question they are higher on Holmes lol

Yeah I wouldn't mind paying for that deal either.
