    mlb trade rumors...
    • In an ideal world, the Dodgers would be able to dump outfielder Matt Kemp and his two-year, $43MM commitment on another club. Of course, they’ve had no luck in that department since acquiring the 33-year-old in an unusual, tax-geared trade with the Braves in December. Unless something changes by spring training, the Dodgers expect Kemp to be part of their left field competition, Zaidi informed reporters, including Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. Joc Pederson, Andrew Toles, Enrique Hernandez, Alex Verdugo and Trayce Thompson will join Kemp in vying for roles, Gurnick writes. Kemp has gotten into “great shape” this offseason, per Zaidi, who contends that “a motivated Matt Kemp can help a lot of teams in baseball, including us.” Kemp hasn’t been all that helpful to any club since 2014, when he slashed .287/.346/.506 in 599 PAs to conclude his first tenure with the Dodgers. Even then, though, Kemp’s well-known defensive limitations somewhat offset his contributions at the plate.

    No one is confusing him.
We have not seen a motivated kemp back with the dodgers aceepting a LF role from spring training. If he is buying in finally and is good shape finally and we cant easily trade him for salary relief then DFA is retarded. Even as the 25th man on the roster he would absolutely be our best DH candidate in a WS.
Better than Grandy last year or anyone else you will have to trade for.
Trading him with a prospect just to clear a spot is also a waste of a prospect.
A matt kemp even at his woeful levels is still a better hitter to bring up in the WS than any pincha or DH hitter we have had recently. Including Adrian Gonzales.
Kemp as a DH in last years WS might have been huge vs the Astros. We díd not have a viable pro to DH like the Astros did. We did not match up there.

And dont forget that the DH rule is coming soon to a NL park near you.

    And NEVER BELIEVE THE HYPE.
The GM is chief salesman. And his job is mostly smoke mirrors oil slicks and chaff.
You need to have a long heat seeking nose to find the magic mushroom in the bullshit.

The worse argument you can have is... the gm said X so X will happen.

I crunched the numbers: if we had Kemp on our WS roster instead of Darvish then we would be WS champs right now.

Of course, the same is true if I was on our WS roster instead of Darvish.

I really gotta sit here and argue that having a guy who can solely DH, whose OBP will barely be over .300, in the National League, is a terrible idea? In 2018?

So, basically, we traded some albatrosses for a really bigger albatross, then?
Maybe Rhianna can kiss him with poison lipstick ?

    too funny Rube... 'Unless'.. hysterical

I can't go so far as to say that Kemp is the original Dodgers clubhouse cancer .. but he's the best example in 20 years.. maybe 30 years since Steve 'impotent fuckwad' Garvey retired

Kind of assumed this, but the question to Andy McCullough was if Darvish was potentially waiting out the Dodgers.

“Yes. My understanding is that Yu Darvish has made clear he would like to return to the Dodgers, and part of the delay in his free agency is related to waiting to see if the team can move some of the money. The Dodgers have explored scenarios for moving useful but (theoretically) extraneous assets such as Yasmani Grandal, Logan Forsythe and Hyun-Jin Ryu. Given the fact that those players are still Dodgers and Darvish is still a free agent, you can guess how the market has reacted to this gambit by the front office.”

    https://www.fanragsports.com/inside-baseball-will-big-moves-thursday-spark-slow-market/

Interesting article stating that their could be as many as 11 teams mailing it in this season as a contributing factor for the slow market. Lets take a look:

    SD
    CIN
    PIT
    MIA
PHI (I realize they signed Santana, but I don't think anybody expects them to be markedly better)
    ATL
    OAK
    KC
    CWS
    DET

    That's 10.

Now, you could make a case that some combination of the Rays, O's and Jays will wind up in that group as well.

A DH should 1) be a good hitter and as crazy as it sounds 2) be on an American League team

A front office who built a powerhouse roster prioritizing flexibility isn’t gonna let a DH who can’t hit take up a roster spot all season
