    - Brewers are said to have contacted the Rays about a Chris Archer trade, but it is beyond wishful thinking as the trade would likely be centered around Domingo Santana and that is just not a good enough piece to consider. Good bat, but dude is a mess in the OF. The speculation now is that the Brewers are going to try to acquire a good cheap controllable SP while still pursuing one of the top pitchers on the market (Arrieta, Cobb, Darvish, Lynn). They do anything like that and man, the division and wild card hunts between the west and central are going to be a bloodbath. Not to mention that the East could be a giant shitshow this year, so if the Mets starters stay healthy, they could make matters worse by beating up on teams not named the Nationals.

    - Miguel Montero signed an MiLB deal with the Nats. My Grandal idea was pretty farfetched to begin with, but this pretty much seals it.

    • The Dodgers’ best chance of moving Matt Kemp may be to package the veteran outfielder (and the $43MM remaining on his contract) along with some good minor league talent to a team with payroll space that is willing to “buy a prospect,” Fangraphs’ Jeff Sullivan writes. Such moves are becoming increasingly common around baseball, such as the Padres’ acquisition of Chase Headley and Bryan Mitchell from the Yankees earlier this offseason. The Dodgers have a deep enough farm system that they might not necessarily have to offer one of their top-tier prospects to unload Kemp; Sullivan cites righty Wilmer Font as the type of MLB-ready minor leaguer that could step right into the rotation of a rebuilding team. Some creativity may be required to work out a Kemp trade, though the five-player, luxury tax-bending deal with the Braves that brought Kemp back to L.A. was itself pretty unique. If it costs the Dodgers a star prospect to get Kemp off the books, it might be worth it in the long run if the trade frees up enough money for the Dodgers to re-sign Yu Darvish.

I don't know if anyone has been following the growing discontent of the players and the slow moving market, so I tried to come up with a solution that wouldn't change the number of years of control the team gets Pre-FA, but allows the players to get paid more sooner. Here's what I came up with:

Restricted free agency during arbitration years. How see this working under the current system is after the 3 years of Pre-Arb a player becomes a Restricted Free Agent (RFA) like in the NBA or NHL, a team can make the player an offer and if he accepts, the originating team is given the opportunity to match and the originating team retains the player at that number.

I understand the flaw and why the owners would NEVER do this, it would allow talent to get from small markets to big ones sooner, further widening the gap. However, it would incentivize teams signing players during Pre-Arb years, instead of just riding out 3 years at ~$535K. Of course, we know top Boras clients would ride out the 3 years and take the highest offer.

Jokes aside, whats gonna happen the first time Kemp hits a big game-winning home run early in the season?
Or goes on a tear hitting home runs and getting RBIs left and right.
Or even more astounding... if he makes a great routine catch in LF without fucking it up!!!

Idk...you can slice and dice it, mold it and fold it, shake it and bake it, poke it or smoke it, the Kemp trade still appears like jumping out of the frying pan onto the fire.
    Oh, and never mix metaphors!

One poster, unnamed at this time, may enter a deep, inconsolable, depression based on years of finely honed Matt Kemp hatred...
