Fuck this shit. I hate Ryan Braun and his pointing his bat to the sky HR clip I have to see every second
I heard a comment today on one of the SiriusXm sports channels. It was after the award and thought Braun was the clear right choice since he dominated the stats this year.
2 major awards winners on a 3rd place team just seemed too far fetched to me and it came true. Voters obviously have a different opinion of what "valuable" meant and they voted accordingly. Matt will use this as more motivation and that can't be all bad.
to make myself feel better, i just went through the current generation's great players to see who hasnt won an MVP Chase Utley has been the Phils best player and he doesnt have one but Howard and Rollins do Holliday doesnt have an MVP Konerko, Cabrera, Hanley, Manny never won, Jeter, Tulo, Longo, etc it helps me cope
From your list you have a couple of things to look at: * Jeter was robbed in '06. Not as bad as Kemp but pretty bad. Morneau won it that year and--before the voting was announced--Torii Hunter had said that he really didn't think Morneau was a legitimate candidate since he wasn't even the MVP of the team that season. He said he felt Mauer, himself-obviously, and Santana were all more valuable to the Twins than Morneau was. About 2 weeks later Morneau wins the MVP. And, if you look at the numbers, he had a point. No way was he more valuable to the team than Mauer so how was he the MVP of the league? * Along those lines, Rollins has never been the MVP of his own team so how was he an MVP? Again, compare Rollins' 2007 MVP campaign to Utley's. It's not even close. * With all the talk of Kemp and Bautista getting robbed, Cabrera's name has been overlooked. He was easily the most valuable Tiger--moreso than Verlander. How do Ellsbury--who had a player on his own team that was more valuable and whose team collapsed down the stretch--and Granderson--who is on a team that is also stacked--rank ahead of him in the MVP ballotting? So even though Kemp was clearly robbed, hasn't it become something to be expected at this point?
Solid post Maest. It's pretty amazing to me that Cabrera and Utley haven't won it, being that the Phils/Tigers have been playoff contenders the past years
saw braun on bspn last night and he said his vote would have been for kemp. fwiw he seemed pretty sincere and excited about winning it. the system is an always has been flawed. seems like matt is over it. really incredible what matt did last year and it will always be a great dodger memory for me. with ck it was sort of the hope that held it together while we pried the parasites from our team.
^ I'll say it again. I want MLB to implement a new Award System and give out 5 Awards, in addition to Silver Slugger and Gold Gloves: * Best Pitcher * Best Position Player * Manager AND Staff of the Year--I don't want to separate one from the other * Best Bench Player * Best Reliever "Valuable" is subjective and open to interpretation. "Best" is best.
One of the daytime anchors on CNN announced Braun won the war and led the league in slugging and then proceeded to say Kemp deserved it and almost the the triple crown. In hindsight it is sorta ridiculous that Kemp didn't win walking away.
