IMO, Matt deserves this award over Braun for a couple of reasons -- not limited to, but including, the following... 1. His monster, near triple-crown year. 2. Braun had Fielder hitting behind him, Matt had no one. 3. Miller Park is much more hitter-friendly than Dodger Stadium. 4. If Kemp were on the Brewers, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
I'm definitely more uncertain of this than I was of Clayton winning the Cy Young -- the subjective/non-defined criteria for the award making it even more of a guessing game. Kemp had a great year on a non-contending team, Braun had a very good year on a playoff team -- and, to be fair, if I were a Brewers fan I'd probably be calling for him to win the award. The sad part for both of them... take one out of the equation, and the other is the clear MVP. I'd actually be okay with Kemp and Braun as co-MVP's.
On pure numbers, Kemp deserves this award more than Kershaw deserved the CY, but Kemp will get second. All the narratives have won thus far, don't see the NL MVP being any different It's okay though, cause from 2012-2014 Kemp will win it
Kemp faced far tougher pitching in the NL West. Kemp played most of his games in far tougher ballparks (NL West compared to the NL Central, bandbox central) Kemp had ridiculously weak protection, compared to Prince Fielder. He still had better numbers. If Kemp doesn't win this award it'll be a travesty. He accounted for an obscene percentage of the Dodgers' run production, and was the best player in the league on an otherwise very weak offense. This is Matt's award, hands down.
Kemp won't win. Too many people with votes have already said they won't vote for him. Bullshit, yes. But who gives a shit.
Yeah, I get it. But at the end of the day you ask anyone, "who was the best player in the NL in 2011?" and EVERYONE will say the same thing. Even people not voting for Kemp know/say he's the best player. It will just be a stupid language interpretation if he doesn't win. That's why I don't give a shit. He was the best player and everyone knows it with or without the hardware.
Seriously...The same people who claimed Pedro Martinez's 12.1 fwar season wasn't worthy of an MVP but Andre Dawsons 3.7 fwar season was.
i know, it's so idiotic how many times have i heard this "Kemp had the best season, but he's not MVP" lol wut? it doesnt matter like you said, but boy would i love to have a dodger win MVP still, i really doubt he wins it i think braun will have a kershaw-like voting. most of the 1st with kemp getting the few other firsts and pretty much every 2nd
would it be anti semitic to say that the fact that braun is jewish might help him a bit with the voting?
