Yeah, amazing...poor teenage Natalie Wood if true.
The story is so fucked up. Brutal man.
Not only that , Robert Downey, Jr. is supposed to be the blogger, under a psuedonym, that is stirring it all up again. But the rumors have been there for many years.

So, I got offered a job as the Monday - Friday sports anchor for the ABC affiliate in Casper, Wyoming. Part of me knows I have to take the opportunity. The other part of me is perfectly happy in California with my wife, finishing school and becoming a teacher/ continue my screenwriting.

I'm really conflicted right now when I should be stoked. I don't know of any 23 year old broadcasters who would turn this down. But I might...

    Ugh. Should be happy

Take it. This is experience that most don't get the opportunity to have. Take a chance. But also, talk to your wife about it.

Started browsing the Casper property listings and it looks like you can get a decent size house for $10k down and $1200 a month payment!
Sure it gets cold there and there isn't a lot to do but I bet it would be like living in a old school midwest throwback town
Maybe not something you hope for but its a good start and gets you a property that you probably want to keep since you're white and will need a place to live later in life as well
Take up hunting and buy a tractor aint nothing wrong w getting out of your comfort zone and shit man every talking head seems to have a story that started somewhere like Casper
I bet its your wife that REALLY doesn't want to go
Time to wear the pants if thats the case brother, not everyone can lead

My wife is the one who's ready to pack the bags and go. I'm the bkitch who will miss the beach too much even though I never go, and of course I'll miss my family. I love Southern California. I just have to tell myself I have the talent to make it back to LA. And if I hate it I can always leave.

    Wow, that's awesome TB! Congrats!

I don't know many 23 year olds who have had opportunities like this. If anything, I think it will be an interesting experience and you may even end up enjoying it. It doesn't have to be permanent either, you can always try it out for a bit and come back if you don't like it. Los Angeles will always be here...unless of course we get nuked by North Korea but you know what I mean.

Dude Casper is not that bad. Especially if just temporary. I travel out there 4-6 times per year. Cold AF in the winter and pretty windy. Summer's are beautiful. If you like to fish... The north platte river runs right through town and is one of the most premier trout fisheries in the world.

Small cowboy town. With basically zero diversity so there's that... Except for taco Tuesday at Don Juans...

Good golf too if into that.

Oh man that's awesome. Seems like a great opportunity for your career if that's a path you want to go down.

Re read my post and it seems like I'm not down for diversity... Totally meant it the opposite. That's a con on the pros/ cons list..

First off, congratulations on the offer. It sounds awesome.

Second, I'm just here to play devil's advocate, not necessarily to shoot down one idea or another.

The opportunity sounds like a once in a lifetime thing, and those, by definition don't happen that often. Who knows when you will get a chance to anchor anywhere else.

If you are young, your wife is behind you, and you have very young children or no children yet, what do you have to lose?

On the other hand, for some people, career means everything, while for others, career is just a part of what makes you "happy" for lack of a better word.

For me, I fall into the latter category. It's a function of who I am, my upbringing, my cultural background, my ethnic and racial background. Although I care deeply about my profession and have been a professional for 20 years, I would not place that above my own family or personal comfort level. That's just me.

For me, going from LA, hell from California to Wyoming would be a non-starter because there's nothing there for me that I couldn't get anywhere else in CA.

But I understand that an anchor job doesn't just spring up everywhere, and certainly not in CA.

I'm not sure what I'm saying. I'm happy for you dude. But it's a big lifestyle change.

But I'm a little weak that way. If I can't get good Mexican food, flip on over and get the best Chinese and Korean food around, move a few blocks for the best sushi, and then eat like a king at Animal, Red Medicine, and Osteria Mozza, I'd shrivel up and die.

    I know I'm not helping.

You sound like me the past 12 hours.

I'm proud of being born in Long Beach. I love knowing every street and freeway like the back of my hand in from LA to OC. I like going to the ballgame. I like palm trees. I like Tommy's burgers. I like the weather. I like my effing family! It's not an easy decision. I didn't formally apply for this. So it's unexpected.

I'm like you. My career isn't everything. There are far more important things that factor into my happiness.
