Congrats on the whole gay marriage thing. We have been there, done that, but better late than ever.

Another victory for people who want to live their one and only life harmlessly the way they want to. To think in this day and age people can attempt to dictate how other people live their lives and hide behind their God (who incidentally makes people that way, huh?) and the bible to do so, as if that gives them some sort of moral authority. Fuck that. Go get married and be happy Adam and Steve.

Now, if only we could catch up to your cannabis laws. We'll get their, as soon as the government can figure out a way to tax it I'm sure. Until then, consider me a "criminal".

Colorado marijuana prices see huge drop, drug cartels reeling

The good news on marijuana legalization in Colorado keeps rolling in, this time in the form of lower prices for the drug. In fact, in some cases it’s down as much as 40 percent--not bad for any product, let alone the fastest growing industry in the nation. It seems that basic economics are actually true; if you increase supply and reduce regulation it will create a boom market.

A little over a year ago an eighth of an ounce ranged in price anywhere from $40 to $75, depending on the strain and the shop. Now those same eighths are selling for as low as $30, according to the Denver Post on June 22. Some were worried that the steep price decline was a sign of a market crash and perhaps an oversaturation of the market, but those concerned don’t seem to include actual cannabis businesses.

In fact, businesses are still reporting massive growth in sales numbers as long time residents, new transplants, and pot tourists flock to the state by the thousands, fueling a huge economic boom, with all the good and bad that can bring with it. In fact, the biggest problem in Denver right now is that the city is growing so fast right now that nobody can keep up with it. Homes can’t be built fast enough, rents are rising too quickly, and infrastructure is struggling to keep up with a city that could start bursting at the seams soon.

With marijuana prices now dropping like a rock, Colorado's growth rate may actually increase even further as people from states who would rather imprison peaceful potheads and empower drug cartels continue to crack down in increasingly insane ways. Neighboring Oklahoma and Nebraska have filed suits against the Centennial State for having the sense to decriminalize, and Kansas is considering throwing a single mother in jail for life for having Crohn’s disease and using medical marijuana to cope with it. All three of those states growth rates are half as much, or lower, than Colorado’s… but that’s probably unrelated.

The biggest problem facing cannabusiness is currently what to do with all of the money that seems to be falling from the sky. The federal government is still giving banks a hard time about accepting deposits, preferring to erect barriers to the money in order to keep it out of the economy. Meanwhile, the state legislature is also trying to figure out what to do with the the tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue that has overflowed their coffers, though you can be assured they willkeep it and waste it if given the chance. They aren’t altogether unreasonable, however, as they are planning to have a one day tax holiday for marijuana sales on September 16, thanks to a loophole that they’ve decided to leave open, and soon after that the sales tax for all marijuana purchases will be permanently reduced to 8 percent. It will be interesting to see what the sales and prices do on that day.

Really, the only people being hurt by the legalization of marijuana are the Mexican drug cartels, who have been experiencing a major drop in business. While the governments of uneducated midwestern states are doing what they can to continue to prop up these violent criminal enterprises, Colorado's massive price drop is probably the biggest blow to them that could be expected. If this trend continues, marijuana will only be profitable for the cartels in states where it’s still illegal, and even there the price reduction will likely be felt.

    :jointpass:

So think about it from 'that' perspective. Wait what? Legalization actually does shut down gray market channels?

Who of thunk? Bunch of bozos... all propped up with massive PAC's from alcohol lobbyists

Honestly, I believe all drugs should be legal. If somebody wants to do crack cocaine well let them live their life and do crack cocaine.

Yeah. Obama is slowly driving us to socialism.

Fuck the states. They don't need to govern themselves with dictator Obama :nazi: and his minions running the show here.

I can completely understand that stance but out of curiosity what makes you take that stance on this issue?

Don't worry, he's a douche who thinks his one line, arrogant responses are spot on.

Portugal has made all drugs legal and the use rates and over doses are amongst the lowest in the world. Instead of spending money fighting a total bullshit drug war, the government spends money on prevention and help with addiction. They also spend money making sure that people who are using drugs have access to clean needles, treatment, therapists, psychologists, etc.

The drug war and the illusion of drugs are something that have been blown out of proportions. You know what is more dangerous? The fast food that people in America eat like nothing. The cigarettes that people smoke. Those are all legal but much more dangerous than weed.

Sure there are very dangerous drugs, but spending money on people and trying to solve their issues mentally makes more sense than the war on drugs which just wastes money in MASSIVE amounts and creates fear in people.

Colorado, kudos to you for at least stepping up with one drug and making it legal. They will make huge amounts of money off of taxes and I can guarantee that their kids will use less than the national average.

It also hurts law enforcement agencies and prisons...who both profit tremendously off the victims of the war on drugs.
Legal drugs = less crime (such as it is), less need for law enforcement, less justification for fancy militarized equipment for the police, etc.
The state will have to find something else to frighten its population with in order to justify its militarized law enforcement capability.

I don't think it's dumb at all. BDK wasn't comparing marijuana to crack cocaine. The idea of the government staying out of peoples' lives as much as possible if they aren't harming others isn't just a good idea, it should be the goal. It might be a bit utopian to think it works out well/better, but far from dumb.

By definition, it's not a "dictatorship" if your minions are running the show. 2 of Obama's "minions", two of Clinton's "minions", and one of Reagan's "minions" - sorry Kzero, but not close to a dictatorship decision. Plus, once appointed, Obama has no control over these minions, it's not like he can fire them.

While I don't think there would be mass histeria or anything like that, I believe it would completely derail any and all types of therapies for people who are trying to obstain from hard drugs. It would make it so much harder for addicts to continue to stop and also make it more appealing to people curious enough to try it. Also, I don't want people I interact with on a daily basis hitting a pipe on their 10- minute break. Will be there be a legal limit for meth? Those type of drugs are life-ruiners man. I've seen what those types of drugs do to people and you have to be a special type of person to get off them.

And I really don't understand how people can say that weed is completely harmless. Getting behind the wheel high is scary as fuck, my friend flipped his car while high as a kite a couple years back...
