Byron Scott said they're seeing Clarkson's future as more of a 2-guard, so there it is.

It seems like the lines between SG and PG are being blurred more and more in today's game. Russel Westbrook and Steph curry have really high usage rates as PGs, and guys like James Harden are playmakers (and shooters) from the SG position.

definitely. i don't think it matters as much anymore either. one thing that does matter is that you need more than one capable ball handler..that'll be true until the NBA is no more.

if they took say Russell, i think they'd share PG responsibilities even while on the floor together because Russell should be a good option off the ball as a shooter. Clarkson would probably defend opposing PGs when they share the floor..a cross-match situation. Klay and Curry pull off the cross-matches quite a bit.

And that's not a bad option. I'd be in favor of Drafting Russell at #2 if the Lakers had some kind of handshake deal with DeAndre Jordan.
You wind up with something like this:
    Jordan
    Randle
    Kobe
    Clarkson
    Russell
In the west, that's probably only good enough to fight for the 8th spot next year, but give the young guys some time to develop and add a max FA SG/SF guy after next year and things are looking up.

If you go with one of the bigs at #2, you have something like this:
    Towns/Okafor
    Randle
    ??? -- FA/Trade for SF
    Kobe
    Clarkson.

For the SF, obviously Jimmy Butler or Kawhi Leonard would be my choice, but that's not really possible--those guys will get matched.
Maybe trade (Hill +#27 pick) for Lance Stephenson?
    Towns/Okafor
    Randle
    Stephenson
    Kobe
    Clarkson

Also looks like a fringe playoff team in the west, but one that will continue to get better and better.

it's being said quite a bit right now by the pundits, but i guess it has some credence ( although, there was Bynum)..most are using history as sort of a guide..saying that the Lakers usually trade for/sign their big man in free agency and draft their franchise changing guard. we obviously have new leadership in the org, and again, Jim Buss did draft Bynum, so the theory's not indisputable. but yea, that speaks to your 1st scenario.

this is the rare situation when i can say that it's likely that i'll be happy no matter which way they go. some of that has to do with the fact that we have no championship aspirations for next year and then we have a need for basically every position, but whatever. we caught a break. Towns' camp is reportedly trying to get him to the Lakers..damn good player. guy can make his FTs and defend..he's ahead of the game.

I'd love Towns....I think he'd be a great compliment to Randle in the frontcourt....both players that can shoot a little bit and space the floor...and Towns defense will help compensate for Randle's lack thereof.
Get a SF that can play D and now you have a team that has a pretty decent balance of offense and defense.
This is the best I've felt about the Lakers in a few years.

Demarre Carroll is getting a lot of ink as far as SF targets go. kind of a poor man's Kawhi Leonard, but he's a good player. hard working player..made himself into a good one.

the easy comparison for Russell is Harden and perhaps Manu and Lillard, but i see a little CP3 in his offensive skillset as well. imagine a 6'5'' Chris Paul..what if D.Russell were THAT.

He seems to get better each game. He's been a beast in the playoffs for the Hawks. Type of guy that brings energy and intensity every game of the season....Kobe would love him.

whaaaaaa, I think he's better suited at the point. Maybe we grab Mudiay though, now?

maybe. Russell would be a better fit with Clarkson, imo, but who's gonna complain about Mudiay? Mudiay may end up being the next Dwyane Wade. he just needs to work on his jumper..that's easier than say " working to become a better athlete ".

D.Russell's not a bad athlete, but Clarkson is probably more gifted athletically. supposedly there's a feeling that Mudiay will be going ahead of Russell. he was ranked ahead of Russell and everybody else before the college season started.

For anybody who thinks Clarkson can play SG, he can't.

LOL @ Justise Winslow at #2. I'd rather have Russell or Mudiay.
