Poll: The Second NL Wild Card Spot
By Mike Axisa [September 15 at 7:54pm CST]

When commissioner Bud Selig and the rest of MLB's leadership implemented the new playoff system earlier this year, one of the goals was create more excitement and races at the end of the season. The Braves came into the day with a comfortable five-game lead for the first Wild Card spot, but the second spot is very much up for grabs.

The Cardinals currently lead the race for the second Wild Card spot, but the Dodgers and Pirates sit just two games back. The surging Brewers are just three games back, the Phillies and Diamondbacks four back. By the end of the night, the race could be even closer. With roughly 17 games left to play and six teams legitimately in the running for that second Wild Card spot, expect there to be a mad dash to the finish line for the right to play Atlanta in a one-game playoff.

Gun to my head, Cards. They play the Astros and Cubs. As bad as they've been, I watch our team every night and don't see much better. It's all on Kemp's shoulders.

My hope...well duh lol. I wanna be playing in October more than anything. And if we did win the WC, Kemp and company will likely have been on a roll, and if this team plays to the talent we can go in and knock out the Giants in the playoffs for all we know. How about that? But we have to get there first and after all the moves we made, our eyes still turn to Kemp and Kershaw. Like it always has been. Funny the way things work out.

Homer vote for the Dodgers. We'll find a way to be scrappy and sneak in.

I was going to put the Dodgers, but saw everyone was voting for them. So I wanted to balance out the poll.

We control our own destiny here. We need to win, if not we're screwed (obviously). The Cards end their season with Washington and Cincy, so we could easily pick up some games to end the season and sneak on by. Then it'd be Kershaw (hopefully) vs Hudson in ATL. I get nervous just thinking about it.

Exactly why we're fucked. That's a lot of destiny in the wrong hands.

Well, that's a tough one. I went for the Dodgers just because I believe in the law of averages. The lineup has to wake up soon...mathematically it has too. It just seems impossible for this shit to continue. Of course the lineup also needs a facelift with Victorino moved to the bottom.
AGon, HanRam, Kemp have yet to have a hot streak since sometime before July. Ethier is always a minute from his next it seems. Guys like them have to have one don't they? Isn't that what players of their caliber do? Maybe an injury prevents Kemp...but the other two hitting hot with Ethier can be deadly.

Fuck I don't know...this season is so fucked up weird now
