Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles.com tweets that the window to complete the deal can be extending if the two sides are negotiating, meaning that the Kemp/Padres saga may continue beyond today.
They agreed to a deal pending a physical. If we tried to sell them damaged goods they have the right to back out. It sucks, but it's typical business.
would you say that if it was the other way around? especially if you were on the hook for $75MM of the newly discovered arthritic player's contract?
Some people just don't understand how BB "business" is done these days....LOL. All kidding aside...I have what Matt's got, really badly...and if he's got it at his age, the Padres should walk in the opposite direction, as quickly as they can. This will NOT get better unless he can get some miracle help. EVER. And money the Dodgers throw at them will not make Kemp's hips any more non-arthritic. It may help them go get someone else, however. But all in all, he's a liability very soon, unfortunately, I would think. DH is calling...or life in the slower lane...
So much love for Kemp will have him wanting to rush back to LA, not! Now that Dre has felt the love that's a lot of salary to dump if this trade falls through. Makes you wonder if health played a role in the supposed almost trade of Dre to Arizona. Time will tell. Kemp will be traded the question is at what cost compared to this trade.
Reportedly, Dodgers couldn't agree on the $$ with Arizona and that is why Andre for Montero didn't happen.
well, no, because the Dodgers aren't loser bkitches. Lol sure, the Pads have a right to do this. however, other than his hips, Kemp still has an assortment of surgically repaired/well known serious threats to his durability ( ankle and shoulder), and yet nobody had to put a gun to the SD FO's heads and make them pursue a guy who's accumulated many warts since 2011. point being..the Padres already knew what they were getting in bed with here and you still don't see them bailing yet and going for a much healthier Justin Upton, so that says enough in itself. it was an assumed risk from the start..this guy's missed entire months with hamstring ailments. Pads come off looking meek here. from an on field standpoint, most analysts were already scratching their heads on this trade for the Pads long before Kemp's physical because by the time they actually get the team turned around, Kemp likely won't be the guy they think they're trading for anyway. i mean Kemp turns 31yrs old next season..which pretty much means that he doesn't have long anyway. i thought it would be the microfracture surgery with the ankle that'd get the red flag because that's scary enough. but fact is, Kemp being under team control is a big part of the allure for the Padres because a Justin Upton would certainly be on the 1st train smokin out of a big Petco park after next season, and so the Pads really can't play the part of victim here because they value the fact that Kemp's controlled. in the Pads' minds, they need Kemp..gettin him is about gettin " a face " that can create a buzz as much as anything else. so unless they think Kemp is gonna collapse and need a Rascal Scooter at some point over the next 3yrs, do the deal that was agreed to. the fact that this stuff is being leaked..if i were the Dodgers i'd file a grievance.
oh and not only do they come off rather weak here, but somebody over there with the Pads is coming off kinda stupid for leaking this stuff and i mean aside from giving the LAD FO a potential weapon against them in terms of a grievance being filed. ..because should a deal get done anyway, by leaking this stuff about Kemp their fanbase has to REALLY feel like they're getting sloppy seconds at this point. Lol kind of a cold shower for them. maybe the Myers addition can warm the water a bit for them.
5:52pm: The Padres “could conceivably take another day, or even several days” to decide on the trade, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman writes. The aforementioned 72-hour deadline was for Kemp to have his physical completed. it wouldn't even surprise me if the Pads passed on Kemp at this point. reportedly, they've still not informed the Dodgers of a problem ( not that they need to with the leak and all ), but with that leak they've actually doused the excitement of the trade for their fans a bit and that was a big part of the thing.
Dodgers cave in to this kind of stuff now, they'll always have teams coming at them with " 11th hour issues " when it comes to trades and asking them to kick in additional stuff. they need to make a stand now..when the Pads call them the first thing they need to say when they answer the phone is " grievance ". just let it be known off the top..shoot 1st and ask questions later.
oh..well, that's absolutely the right call to make. again..the Padres knew this Kemp signing was a risk health-wise and the fact that he's turning 31 at the end of next season means he doesn't have much time left at his current level anyway. they're not dealing with a Colletti's dumbass. they can either take the deal that's there, or they can keep it moving and let's get this grievance underway.
The trade is very close to being finalized and is “all but done,” Yahoo Sports’ Tim Brown tweets. The Padres asked the Dodgers to add more than $32MM in the deal but L.A. refused, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports. we'll see if Tim Brown knows the " business "
In light of the millions they've tossed around since then, does this seem right? To blow getting Montero?
What can a successful grievance bring the Dodgers as a result ? The trade would happen, or what would as an alternative? Seems to me like the principles in a trade are always contingent on the medical report, aren't they...except when Ned makes the deal, like with Jason Schmidt. I guess that's the FA difference ... Then it doesn't matter....we just pay him for three years or so.
