I know MLBPA would be against weekly drug testing for all players, but I think this is something MLB could bully them on. Who are the fans going to side with? The players association will look bad if they fight something like that, and for every major league player there are 100 players itching for a shot at the bigs - so the players could be replaced in a second. It's obviously still a problem, and it needs to be taken care of once and for all.
Selig does not want the gnats to win. I am worried they will because I think that this momentum is going to carry the Gnats and that Detroit may have shot their load. Scutaro will never be tested. The Gnats cannot afford to let it happen. Cabrera was positive 3 weeks before the suspension and was able to tie the whole thing up in appeals. It is the nature of baseball now.
I seriously suspect that there are clubhouses where managers and GMs encourage the behavior. Sabean is, at this point, a drug dealer. Look at the history of PEDs in SF. Sabean has figured out a system. He buys low, pumps them full of juice, they perform well. If they get caught, he replaces them in the same manner.
I disagree with a weekly test, that's a bit of overkill...but monthly would be perfect. There'd be no way around that.
