Another minor injury turning bigger by the day Hope kemp/Crawford can hit well vs. righties cause that's a huge loss vs. righties Get well soon Ethier, please! Fuck. Ugh
I fucking hate Dylan Hernandez. When Hanley hurt his shoulder in Chicago, that douche was talking about him being out for the postseason.
UPDATE: Ethier could miss Division Series with leg injuryBy Ken Gurnick | MLB.com -- Thursday 11:39 am PTSAN FRANCISCO -- Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier's availability for next week's playoffs is in doubtbecause of his ankle injury, manager Don Mattingly said Wednesday. The club sent Ethier to Los Angeles on Wednesday for an MRI and CT scan, which showed his lowerleft leg had improved but not completely healed. Drs. Neal ElAttrache and Phillip Kwong, a foot andankle specialist, cleared Ethier to return to games when he is able to run the bases without pain.Ethier was back in the clubhouse at AT&T Park after Wednesday night's game, but wouldn't elaboratemuch beyond the club's prepared statement."I'm not worried about that," he said when asked about the postseason. "I'm worried abouttomorrow. Does the postseason start tomorrow? All right then. We're just worrying about tomorrow."Ethier originally injured his left ankle on a swing in Colorado on Sept. 4 and re-injured it on a doubleagainst the Giants on Sept. 13, the last time he played. After more than a week of therapy, heencountered increased pain trying to round the bases in a workout Tuesday, leading to Wednesday'sexam."Yeah, I'm a little worried about him," said Mattingly. "He didn't look good and wasn't running veryhard. I'd like to be optimistic. It was the same thing with Matt [Kemp] about turning [the bases] andtwo days later he was rolling. That would be great. We'll just see. Today we sent him to rule outanything in a different direction."The club is calling the injury a left ankle sprain. Ethier said the discomfort he has is believed to stemfrom the periosteum, the sheath that covers the bones of the leg, with pain similar to shin splints.Although he insisted the club hasn't internally set rosters, Mattingly indicated he would not becomfortable carrying Ethier for strictly pinch-hitting purposes."He's got to be able to run the bases," Mattingly said. "Yesterday he was a little disappointed. Hehad the off-day and said he was perfectly fine. Shagging in the outfield he looked really good, alittle cautious, but then the turns disappointed him. The fear is it's taking longer. He's been out 11days. We're running out of time again."If Ethier is not on the roster, it might open a spot for Scott Van Slyke, who has played primarilyoutfield, or Jerry Hairston, who might otherwise be squeezed off the roster by newcomer MichaelYoung. As right-handed hitters, Van Slyke or Hairston would give Mattingly a platoon-mate for leftfielder Carl Crawford against left-handed pitching. __
hitting vs righties has never been our problem and that doesn't change with Kemp in. Kemp's far more comfortable against righties in comparison to Ethier's comfort level against lefties...we all know that. plus we have Puig/Hanley/AGon tearing the cover off the ball against righties. we're fine there. hitting against lefties has been our problem because either Ethier, CC, and AGon have to be in the top/mid part of our lineup or Donnie's had to take them out of the lineup altogether for most of the year. those 3 guys struggling against lefties...again we don't have 3 core guys struggling against righties like that. so for that reason i feel we'll be alright. would love for the team to be 100% complete, but that's obviously not in the cards for this squad. we've already signed Numata...if we can sign Tanaka and then Urias and Onelki and those guys keep coming along i could see them packaging Ethier, Bills, and Zach Lee. it looks like it's just a matter of time. they'll have to pay a portion of Ethier's deal of course, but it'd be worth it if David Price was coming back. pay the price for Price. lol imagine our pipeline of pitching if we signed Tanaka and then got Price for Ethier/Bills/Z.Lee...that'd be Kershaw/Price/Greinke/Ryu/(probably Nolasco back)/Tanaka/Urias/Onelki/Numata/Stripling/Reed lol lovely
I think the biggest part of this that hurts is not having that bat available off the bench in crunch times, whether it is his, Kemp's, or Crawford's. It would especially hurt if we make it past the first two rounds and don't have a shoe in for the DH spot.
Ethier resumes workouts after exams check out By Ken Gurnick | MLB.com -- 9/26/2013 9:20pm ET SAN FRANCISCO -- Cleared by doctors after Wednesday's MRI and CT scan, Andre Ethier resumed working out on his injured left ankle with the team on Thursday. Ethier is able to hit, catch balls in the outfield and throw. Manager Don Mattingly said the club will wait until next week to test Ethier on the bases, and determining his role, if any, in the first round of the playoffs might not be made until the last minute. Because he won't be playing in the final three regular-season games, Ethier will maintain his swing in simulated games, Mattingly said. "It doesn't mean we're not moving forward," Mattingly said. "I'm a little more encouraged today." Besides Ethier, Mattingly said he feels good about the physical condition of his club, which has been battered most of the season. "Andre's the only guy," Mattingly said, although utility man Jerry Hairston has been sidelined with back spasms. __
