I think the "control" thing is overstated. I really think they have their heart set on going younger.
Personally, I'd love it if they went with KKennedy. I know he's stated he doesn't want to manage anymore but I believe he'd overlook that for the chance to manage the Dodgers. It's my feeling that the F/O may see him as too old school. Plus, he's an old former backstop. They always make the best Managers right!
Kennedy really ditched the whole skipper persona from his days at Fox and has become incredibly insightful. I think he'd be great. And I don't think he's too old school either. He seems like someone who can improvise during a game, understands all of the rules, would be able to inspire, etc. Also his analysis of lineup construction and managing a pitching staff seems spot on. I never get the impression he is speaking solely in hindsight when breaking down a game.
They got Dee, Stanton, and Fernandez. You can't ask for much better young pieces than what they have.
Does this have any impact of FA and or re-signing Greinke? Would a high priced veteran player (pitcher or otherwise) want to play with a younger inexperienced manager? Or is this a sign we are truly going with a lower priced, much younger roster?
Yeah Howie should be retained. He gets it done. The real deal is that NO ONE is going to believe that GG seriously wants to win if they let Greinke go. That 9 figure deal should be the show stopper. And then go get Price or Scherzer anyways
I know it might not matter, but Kennedy is a Dodger. Always tells the story of listening to Vin call Sandy's perfect game, going to Taft High School, working as a minor league instructor back in the Dodger town days... I'd keep Ron, Davey and Honeycutt.
Whatever they decide, I think their endgame is Kapler. And any Reonike, Wallach type hire is just a buffer.
Howie is an excellent example of who they need to surround Corey and Joc with. The man missed a month, rolled out of bed, and had 6 hits and 4RBIs in that NYM series against all star fire-ballers. Goes about his business in the most professional way. Hope they bring him back..don't think they will, but I hope they do. He's part of the solution.
I'm not opposed to Gabe..but can someone explain to me why they think he could potentially be the best choice?
This could be a concern, except Greinke is a different cat altogether. When he signed with us several years ago he basically said it was for the money. I imagine money will be the deciding factor again.
I don't think Grienke cares as long as he gets paid. Dude is weird and has said he'll play for a last place team if they pay him enough.
Its about fucking time. NEVER should have gotten the job to begin with. NEVER had any idea on how to manage a NL team. NEVER was qualified to become a manager let alone a DODGERS manager. 1st SMART decision these number punchers have made so far. Wonder if their computers did the firing for them? Anyways, Yeager should get the gig imo if not him then Wallach.
At work and just heard about it, so I can't comment much. Just say that it needed to happen. Now let's see who we get. And I would like to see Honeycutt stay as well
Haha, I was just going to say "Because TB hasn't weighed in on it yet"... and then I saw the follow up posts.
