so treinen just underwent rotator cuff surgery and is likely done for next season :smh:

    Jack Harris✓@Jack_A_Harris
The #Dodgers announced that Blake Treinen had right shoulder labrum and rotator cuff repair surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. That requires a rehab process of up to 10 months, meaning Treinen could miss all of the 2023 season

Andrew Friedman suggests prospect Jacob Amaya could replace Trea Turner
by Jeff Snider | Dodgers Nation — 2 hours ago

Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner hit free agency this week, one of the “Big Four” shortstops on the market along with Carlos Correa, Dansby Swanson, and Xander Bogaerts. Los Angeles will be interested in signing one of those four stars, but they also have internal options.

Chris Taylor was L.A.’s primary shortstop in 2018 between when Corey Seager got injured early in late April and when the team traded for Manny Machado at the trade deadline. In 2021, Gavin Lux filled in as the primary shortstop while Seager was out with injury from mid-May to late July. But as Bill Plunkett reports in the Orange County Register, Andrew Friedman and Brandon Gomes think there’s one other internal option who hasn’t gotten as much notice: prospect Jacob Amaya.

Beyond the quartet of free agents, Friedman and Gomes indicated the team does “feel good” about Gavin Lux as an internal option to replace Turner at shortstop. Lux was a shortstop throughout his amateur career and for the first few years in the minors before the Dodgers moved him to second base with Seager at the major-league level. …

Additionally, the Dodgers could use Chris Taylor at shortstop and prospect Jacob Amaya “can certainly handle it defensively and his offense is developing.”

“There are a lot of options externally and we have good options internally,” Friedman said. “So we get to wade through that market and figure out what ultimately makes the most sense.”

In a way, it’s surprising we don’t talk more about Amaya. For one thing, he’s the only pure shortstop on the 40-man roster who’s played above A-ball, so it seems like he’d be close to the default option. It’s just that his offense would be a step back from Trea — Amaya posted a .795 OPS in Double-A and Triple-A in 2022, 14 points lower than Turner despite playing in a much better hitting environment.

But Amaya is a good reminder that the Dodgers don’t necessarily have to continue to pursue the “All-Star at every position” approach of the last couple years. Amaya is excellent defensively and could slot in very well at the bottom of the order, and he’s gotten better offensively as he’s matured in the minors. Getting on base is a specialty of Amaya's, so plugging him in ahead of Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman could work out pretty well.

It might be just crazy enough to work.

^ imo, we should definitely try to re-sign anderson, martin and kahnle
jt too, on a reasonable one-year deal
i'd kick the tires on judge, degrom, verlander and the shortstops... then probably pass

some guys that kinda intrigue me (homo)...

I'd consider Pollock too. I'd honestly like someone like Andrew Benintendi, and one of the SS's are a must along with one more SP, whether that is Anderson or someone else like Kodai Senga or the trade market (Corbin Burnes?). Then with Treinen having surgery, I hope Martin is back and then maybe one more other reliever in FA.

So I guess having surgery on Treinen last May was a bad idea. I mean ... He was real useful for those four months on the DL & that epic flameout versus San Diego. Having him fully healed for NEXT fucking year is obviously a fool's errand, right Freidman?

dodgers pass on giving heaney a qualifying offer
makes sense... qualifying offer would have netted him $19.65mm, and he made $8mm in 2022

Time to let the young arms (Miller, Grove or Pepiot) take over for place holders like Heaney.

    Concur.

It is ironic that the same organization which has wisely spent on rehabbed arms and bats over the last decade, has at the same time hedged & proven unable to churn out WS titles as they should have .

To your point, this team may as well turn over to even cheaper youth than free agents and rehabs since they've not exactly done much in October during this run. Perhaps build a year or two of that youth into a repeat champion? Huh, Guggeheim?

Even if the Dodgers had won a WS in 2017 and counting 2020 (we should - EVERY TEAM had the same benefits of short season) .... even two World Championships in the last 10 years is too small a number. This team clearly was the best team in baseball for half of those years.

But somewhere between Friedman's budget mindset that he came to LA with and the guarded & fearful realities of Dave Roberts' management of this team, they're a living contradiction in the modern game. They are the worst fusion of analytics and old fashioned baseball that I can think of.

Pick a lane, Dodgers. Or lose the last of your real fans. Because filling your stadium with low income pieces of shit who go viral beating the snot out of each other & flashing gang tats & elecrronic ankle bracelets isn't a formula for long term growth.

R.I.P. Ray Guy, one of the greatest punters there ever was...back when the Raiders were in their heyday.
I just never could figure out how he got that power as a smaller guy...he was as good as it gets. A true weapon.
    Only 72.
