The Red Sox and Phillies are among 2-4 teams that have seasons selling out EVERY GAME during the season. The Giants sold out every game last season. If the Dodgers reach a peak level under new ownership, is it possible to sell out every game? Obviously the Red Sox and Phillies only have to sell 40,000 tickets. The Dodgers would have to average 56,000. Is that possible? If not, what about averaging 50,000 per game? Bottom line is, empty seats look bad. When I watch highlights I am embarrassed for our team with all of the visible yellow and turquoise seats. Last year was obviously the worst, but even in seasons where we lead the league in attendance the stadium is almost never FULL. Is 56,000 too much? Should we reduce capacity? If we want that big market feel, there should be no seats visible. simple as that.
i've always said if you want to make some changes to the stadium, taking out 6000 seats would work. From the top deck, you do what the A's do at Oakland Stadium and have a tarp of some sorts. It would look weird, but having a stadium of 56000 and being in LA where there are many fair-weather fans doesn't really work. Although, like BZ said, if you win, they will come. The Dodgers need more than Magic and a new group to brig the masses.
If you were to reduce capacity, it would need to be down the foul pole on the reserve. Or just increase leg room by filling the same mass with less seats. Just Looks horrible when seats are empty. Tarps show surrender.
its LA people have other things to do so doubtful it sells out all season especially when the dregs of the league come to DS winners or not the place won't sell out
I feel like Dodger stadium is a little more crammed than other places. Widening seats a hair would be fairly easy, but creating more legroom sounds like a challenge.
Mike hit it right on the head. The Dodgers are fighting for attention on multiple fronts for a share of wallet. Besides, everybody knows LA fans are fickle >.>
Sometimes they sell out but sometimes they barely have 30k, they're not selling out games against the Mariners or Royals
Honestly don't think so. We have 30-50% more seats than places like Fenway and Citizen Bank, so it's understandable that they can sell out.
Instead of reducing ticket prices, all they need to do is reduce food stuff a tad bit and ppl will flock Even if its like 5 cents people will think its a positive
The food prices are pretty high though...Off the top of my head, $5 for a water is ridiculous.. $5 for a dodger dog, $8 for a beer, 4$ for a pretzel etc. And what sucks even more is you can't bring food into the park. So either you eat before, spend outrageous amounts of money on food that's overpriced during the game or stay hungry til the game is over. Its seriously worse than the airport. What they should do is model themselves after Costco. $1.50 for an all beef hotdog with a soda. That is fucking great. I'm not expecting it to be $1.50, but $5 is high. It should be ~ $3. Also $5 for a water...seriously... Kirkland 16.9 oz water for $2 and they're still making $1.75 per bottle! Parking at 15 is stupid too. Make that shit $8.
