Pollock, Puig named NL Players of the Week

A pair of outfielders from division-rival clubs shared weekly National League honors, as the D-backs' A.J. Pollock and the Dodgers' Yasiel Puig were named the league's co-Players of the Week.

Over six games last week, Pollock led the league with a .500 (11-for-22) batting average and .909 slugging percentage, while Puig led the NL in RBIs (11) and was tied for the top spot with three homers.

Pollock's 20 total bases also tied with Puig for first in the NL, and the Arizona speedster was tied for second in hits and on-base percentage (.522). He recorded his third multi-hit outing of the week with a 3-for-4 game Sunday as the D-backs took the rubber match of a three-game series against Puig's Dodgers at Chase Field.

This came a day after Pollock went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and three runs, while hitting his fifth homer of the season. This is his first career weekly award.

It's the second for Puig (also the week of June 9, 2013), who hit .348 (8-for-23) last week. He was held hitless in Sunday's loss, snapping a career-best 16-game hit streak that began April 30.

Puig did homer Saturday -- his ninth of the season -- to give him 35 RBIs on the year, currently tied for second in the league. It was his eighth straight game with at least one extra-base hit and one RBI, surpassing Pedro Guerrero's club record of seven such outings, from July 31-August 9, 1985.

Chicago's Starlin Castro, Washington's Ian Desmond, St. Louis' Yadier Molina, Miami's Giancarlo Stanton and Cincinnati's Johnny Cueto were among the other players recognized for their outstanding performances last week.
