Not sure about "panic", it has been apparent that this team needs another starter since Bills went down and Beckett sucked, can't keep running out Magill/Lilly/Crapuano and expect to win.
I think Capuano and Fife have done well enough for the 5th spot. I would rather grab a good BP guy or decent hitter for 3rd.
Fife has been great for the role he's been in, don't get me wrong; but he's not the type of pitcher you want going for you every fifth day for the majority of a season. He has much more value as a spot starter; and to be honest, a Dodger game has incredibly high potential to be a real shit show when someone other than Kersh, Greinke, or Ryu is pitching. We need another solid starter.
When you are rushing to make a deal for Ricky nolasco....yeah sounds like a panic move to me. Let the gnats or madres have him. I'd rather run capuano out there every 5th day then trade for nolasco. Both he and fife have actually been pretty good lately. Buy some time and find a better pitcher before the deadline.
I see this trades very differently. I am tired of grabbing a player that will come in and be a stopgap for half a season (who may or may not mesh well). I would much rather grab a decent younger player with some upside who can stick around.
A team 9 games under .500 shouldn't be trading for a mid-rotation starter in late June. Wait and see, if we go on a little run, we can add a SP before the deadline. There will be guys similar to Ricky Nolasco, that I can assure you.
Not necessarily making a case for Nolasco (I've never really been a big fan anyways), just saying that another solid starter would help this team out a lot. Especially since the Dodgers are probably still 10+ games under .500 when a pitcher other than the main three take the mound.
If Cashman ate half his contract, I would do it in a second. It is win win. The Dodgers get Arod for about 10mil. a year for decent production. If he gets suspended, he does not get paid. Four years to move from Arod to Seager.
Pass on A-Rod from me as well. I don't want to be known as the team where expensive contracts go to die.
Haha if he was half as good as he was in 2010 he'd still be a better option off the bench than we have and I'd be so down.
