Is the timing of this a valid point...everything rolling right along...will it have an effect on the overall team, possibly? Hope it doesn't change the mojo... Guess we'll find out tonight, or soon enough.
Not really......AJ actually got brought up to the Dodgers in 2008......the same year Kershaw was. They have been together since AAA, and possibly before. Again, I am in favor of upgrading any position, and Ruiz IS an upgrade over Ellis, however IF Kerhsaw is not happy about this trade and his pitching is affected by it, then was the minimal up grade in our back up catcher worth pissing off Kerhsaw???
Gives them some flexibility, but they also like Barnes because of the versatility that you mentioned, so a move involving him would still have to be one that's worthwhile. Barnes is still just a YD or Chooch injury away from being called into action, so I'd like to see Barnes retained for hopefully Segedin/Toles-level depth.
Not gonna lie, this one feels weird. It's obviously a huge upgrade, but I always pictured AJ just being DFA'd quietly and being allowed to hang out in the clubhouse/hired as a bullpen catcher. I'm not even sure what Philly wants with him besides to eat up innings - why not just bring up a couple minor league catchers in a week? I really hope AJ had some say in this, and that he wanted playing time somewhere in hopes of landing a twilight contract. I also hope we see him back in the organization (not as a player) sooner rather than later. ♥ AJ ♥
I don't like this. Just shocking. Why couldn't they have sent something else to Philly and just cut AJ to allow him to stay on the bench? I know that's candy land thinking but ugh.
Pedro brought up a great point about the trade. Since it's reported that Kershaw was in shock about the trade maybe they should have asked our FRANCHISE pitcher what he thought before they traded his best friend? (He's struggling I get it).
That has been established but it's is FAR from "that is all". Couldn't have made this trade after the Cubs leave town? Timing is everything and this feels bigger than it should. The reaction from the clubhouse so far tells the entire story.
Nothing but negative reactions on Twitter, and predictably so. I've been a supporter of the FO, and get that this trade is a big upgrade on paper, but it makes me wonder if the FO is retarded. AJ offers basically no value to the Phillies so this could have been done without him, so why not just cut or DL AJ and offer him the choice to stay in the clubhouse?
I don't know about that either. I mean what are they gonna say? " Ah, see ya later, you bum. You suck anyway. " Lol That's for us to do. They gave Ellis a hell of a long leash and he knows it, or at least he should.
That moment you realize we've pretty much traded for all the Phillies championship core at some point except Ryan Howard.
Word is: Kershaw and Ellis cried together in the dugout. My anus can propel a baseball with better exit velo than AJ Ellis. Kershaw, and all his man love, has a shit record in the post pitching to Ellis.
