Well, it didn't take long to go from giddy blockbuster euphoria right back to scoring almost nil. Not long at all; head spinning, as this Dodger team is as weird as possibly can be. How you revert back immediately to 16 LOB with that Big 4 in the middle is beyond me. I guess you're not supposed to notice, and look to the future. All 4 of 'em are walking and talking NOW, playing and in the lineup. It's hitting the ball and RBIs; it's pretty fucking simple, really. No matter what we do, no matter who complains about it, no matter who doesn't like that, no matter what analysts say and predict...if we don't get there in the end, it don't mean shit. As they used to say in the army. I saw Torre for many years in NY have the best players bought for him almost every year. And he had a pretty damn good WS run. But he just sat there and kinda let it happen...send 'em out and let 'em play. IMO. It's not intricate brain surgery when you have the big guns, and most of the bullets. I guess we have entered that category now, with that 3,4,5,6 lineup. There is so much more managing in the NL, though. For DBB to do. I immediately got caught up in the "future dynasy" bullshit, and posted as such. Idiot. But you can't have a dynasty unless you start somewhere. Thinking about it, the "looking to the future" stuff is all well and good and hopeful, but it's almost like making a pre-empted excuse for the fact that we could fail now, as that is what this blockbuster, no matter what, is about. "The LAD are about winning NOW". As Vinny has told us many times. I hope so. I don't feel like waiting for another season to come and go. Those of you who wrote they don't mind- that's cool . For you. I want it now. Being OK with "next year" or "the future"...IMO, is like "what else can you say about it if we go nowhere again?". Really? Push back now to next year? AGAIN? It's the same lament I heard as a little boy and experienced since '88. Fuck it. Do it now. Damn, if spending over a quarter of a billion on players can't get you where you want, where you need to go, then damn, I don't know what can.
See, I'm not worried about leaving that many guys on base because it means we got that many guys on base in the first place. I have no doubt guys like Hanley and Andre will eventually pick up big hits with runners on.
Only 3 concerns: 1) Pitching going forward 2) Days are rapidly getting knocked off the calender, waiting for a real run of wins 3) Dodger/Giant difference in schedules Yesterday wasn't indicative of what this team is, just a fucking annoying game. Gotta win these games. Like I said. Every day we tread water is one less day to catch up. Gotta come out and SWEEP the Rockies.
Everything TB said there is spot on. My thought process is that if we win every series from here on out we'll make the playoffs. BTW, just thinking out loud, does there come a point where you start wondering if CK can go on 4 days rest a few times down the stretch?
RE what I just said. I just looked, and we have 4 off days in September. Kershaw just needs to stay on a 5 man schedule, and we'll push back Harang a day or two every time.
Thanks Irish. I used to get my info from PSD but the level of intelligence there has gone down dramatically the last couple of years. No offense to anyone who still posts there.
if we are gonna go on a run it has to be now. rockies, dbacks, padres. easy teams, and we have to win cause we still have the cards and nats to go even strassberg less they are still tough
welcome mugs. we don't get offended by psd since most if not all of us came from there. the difference here is we don't have ass munching mods and sort of police ourselves.
as everyone else is saying. time is running out and we need to make our push NOW. all the parts are there but losing like we did yesterday makes me think we might not have it in us. almost like oh well the giants will lose a few too. i don't think we can count on that w the staff they have up north. time for pedal to the metal.
