I wanted Stanton since he was my favorite player, but the truth is that 10 yrs is a long fucking contract for a dude built like he is. If there was a DH spot in the orgs future, then I say absolutely do this deal. There is just too much risk to take on that amount of money at that length of a contract. I mean, look at what AGon has been the past 2 seasons. Is that worth $25+M a year? AGon was also one of the most durable players in the game and he couldn't hold it together in his age 35 season. With Stanton, we'd still have 2 years left of him and who knows how he'd handle a move to 1B. I'm sitting here sulking right now for selfish reasons knowing we missed a generational bat, but the fact of the matter is that based on history, this is the right call. The Dodgers are still the best built team in the NL, but the FO needs to turn them into the best built team in MLB this offseason.

Substitute " Yankees " for Dr. Jerry Buss there.
Buss would've been all over this, delivering the goods.
But we'll see just how much salary NYY is taking on here because it looks like they're going to be taking on damn near all of it, or at least that's what's being reported.
I don't think any of us wanted LAD to take on that much of Stanton's contract.
240-250M, OK..the whole 290M or whatever it is..

Yankee Stadium is obviously a great, great fit for Stanton too with his ability to drive the ball to RF
    He's about to hit 90HRs

They can upgrade the OF, but if you lock Puig and Taylor in the OF, that leaves Joc, Kiké, Toles, and Verdugo to fill the final spot. So plenty of bodies to get you through the first half of the season to re-evaluate need at the deadline. Stanton really wasn’t needed, he was just an opportunity for an elite player. Yelich/Ozuna/McCutchen aren’t elite

The Yankees used to be perceived as the evil empire. lately its been the Dodgers. Only difference is the Yankees make the moves that win championships the Dodgers just make moves to win division titles.

They have built the team up to be great. One win short of the WS, but now is when you go all in. There are just a few opportunities to win it all, and in the end that is all that counts. Not division titles, not consistent good seasons

We were Stanton’s number 1 choice. We didn’t need to beat the Yankees, we just had to make a reasonable offer and keep Stanton in the loop.

The Yankees were also trying to dump 2018 salary on Miami, so it will be interesting to see how they did on that. $265M to the Dodgers if Miami picked up Kazmir should have been in the Dodgers ballpark. At least close enough to keep us talking.

Getting excited about Yelich, Ozuna, or Darvish after passing on Stanton is literally reenacting that scene from Dumb & Dumber :smh:

In all seriousness, I think the Yankees will win 110 games next year.

We already know the Yankees are sending Starlin Castro to Miami, he is owed $22.7M + the $30M of Stanton's money they retained, that's $52.7M, and in Castro they actually have a movable asset.

The Dodgers actually owe Kazmir $32M in cash (he has 3 years deferred @ $8M), his luxury tax number is only $16M for one more year, but Miami doesn't give a shit about the tax, as they get no where near it. So let's say the Dodgers wanted the Marlins to retain $50M of Giancarlo's money + Kazmir's $32M, that's $82M. If their goal was to save cash as reported, it's really not close.

The link below has an explanation of the deferrals:

Not only the W/L projection, but the PR possibilities with the Stanton/Judge HR potential, given the NYY past, is worth every penny of the fucking $265 million the Dodgers "shouldn't"/wouldn't pay.
A bonanza of media attention coming their way...a modern day frenzy no other two players can come near generating.
    Great move, all around.
