not good... Chad Billingsley may miss the entire 2013 season due to a slightly torn UCL in his right elbow, reports Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. Billingsley will try to rehab the injury without Tommy John surgery, but if he needs to go under the knife, it will cost him all of 2013 no matter if he undergoes the procedure now or in the spring. Since signing a three-year, $35MM extension in March 2011 that covers the 2012-14 seasons, Billingsley has posted a 3.92 ERA, 2.17 K/BB ratio and 7.5 K/9 in 57 starts. LINK
thinking about lifting it but with a stern warning I like most of what he says but he started getting way too abusive I hate having to be a cop suspension lifted... for now
Dont you think the questions are way too many? I called it possible disaster, no imminent disaster...
It takes time for a lineup to gel, lets not forget that the A-Holes couldn't score to save their lives the first month and they only added 1 new face, we've added 3 over the last 6 weeks.
It's true and that's the only thing that keeps me going. Who knows, as good as this team could be(you know, stats on paper) maybe we get hot the last week, barely get a wildcard spot and blow through the postseason to our first championship in like 23 years!
It's baseball, anything can happen; and I've seen crazier things happen in my not even decade long fan-hood. That's why it's so damn hard to lose hope in baseball.
Like seriously, we could win two in a row and the Cards could lose two in a row and we'd be ahead of them.
The pitching is a concern but I am not to the point of calling it a disaster in the making. If we lose Bills, that will suck. We lost RDR, that does suck. With these losses, right now we start next season with Kershaw/Beckett/Capuano/Harang/? However, while this class does not have a CC, Lee, Holladay, it does offer some intriguing options. We need to remember we are walking into this FA market very different than we EVER have. (save FOX days) Here are the differences: We have an offense that should produce already on payroll. We do not need that proverbial big bat or three. We have owners that do not mind spending now to ensure we win soon. We have a core of young pitchers who could arrive in the next two years. While it appears they are back of the rotation guys, those are a few less spots to fill when the time comes. In red italics are the names that are intriguing. I am NOT supporting a Greinke grab. He will be too expensive and seems to falter when needed. He seems to inconsistent to me. If I am wrong, Saber people, tell me. In my opinion Ned, this could be Ned's playground. We usually employ every backup middle infielder in baseball come January. Sadly, we have needed them all. Now, we are good there. We also get about four hundred 4th outfielders. We are set there. This leaves only 3rd base, starting pitcher, and relief pitching. Cruz seems to have 3rd covered until we can get someone to take over long term. That leaves SP and RP. We do need one or two relief pitchers but I think they can be had. Ned, likes to go after a bunch of the same type players in order to corner a market. Every person in baseball knows we have money and a killer lineup. They will want a part, trust me. Here is how to handle this FA market when it comes to SP. You offer contracts to the best two 2/3 type starters available. If they do not sign, you move down the list. Very simple. My vote is for one of Peavy and one of Marcum. Both have been good. Peavy has returned to form and would love to come here. Remember he actually requested us at one point. Marcum eats innings and can pitch well as he had proven. I am hoping his latest injury will be taken care of and fully recovered by October. Now, comes the tricky part. You grab two "iffy" starters. I am in love with B. McCarthy. Lights out but oft injured. So take a flyer and use him till he is hurt and rotate. Villanueva is another that makes me wonder if he is figuring it out. Finally Sanchez and Lewis are guys that have proven they can pitch well. Lewis is great because he managed to keep the ball down in fucking Texas. Sanchez was lights out on more than one occasion. My point is simple. Grab what we need to make a nice rotation. There are MANY options available and we have the resources. Sign too many. Sign too many. Sign too many. If we have to cut bait with what we have that is underperforming, we can take the hit. Even Harang would net us one or two prospects. We are now the Dodgers. Let's look like it. Kershaw/Peavy/Marcum/Capuano/Beckett.
Let me say this: If we could manage to get Peavy and Kuroda.... Kershaw/Peavy/Kuroda/Capuano/Kuroda Move Harang to pen for long relief... Add B.McCarthy Yeah.....
