I'm sad to see AJ go, his value on the field is virtually gone, but he was a rock in the clubhouse. He was a team player for sure.

For everyone thinking Ruiz is a huge upgrade...no. He is an upgrade, but he's at the end of his career. All the great numbers he's put up are history. He's played 46 games this year and he's been in decline since 2012. The best thing about this deal is the $500K buyout for next year. Barnes and others can rest easy.

So, yes he's better than AJ. But he's a minimal impact player at this point in his career. The PTBNL might be the biggest news here, once he's revealed.

 

I've gone back and forth for 4 hours but I've decided I hate this trade. Ruiz is a washed up fat outsider and he would have to completely rake for me to think this was worth the loss of AJ. I think this move pissed off the players, which matters. They hardly upgraded imo and it wasn't worth it.

And yes, I realize how useless he was at the plate. But Ruiz ain't nothing either at this point. If he rakes lefties, I'll eat crow.

I dont think its him. The player to be named later is usually a scrub. Not someone you were not willing to give up at the trade deadline.

I don't think I've felt this way about a trade since Mike Piazza was traded. AJ was a scrub on the field, but like the Piazza trade things make sense on paper and in a boardroom, but completely ignore the human element and fan experience. Kershaw was unavailable for comment? No hit through 6 innings? This is a bullshit minor trade that could cost us much more than the FO realizes. Just dumb. Rookie FO move if you ask me.

I never said I loved it. From a baseball perspective I understood it immediately (if it's a video game I make that trade 10 out of 10 times). Then I thought I had accepted it. But then everything I read and hear makes me hate it again. Kershaw not talking to media. AJ devastated. Roberts trying to put on a brave face. The team 1 out from being no hit. 99% of fans hating it. And all this over a guy who is bad. Arguably the worst player on the 25 man roster. Maybe that says more than anything.

I thought I was over it. But I'm not. And never loved it. Never will.

Difference is, I embrace it. I really don't care as long as the end result is good. I like being a fan, and not take myself seriously. I admit when I'm wrong all the time. This is a place to vent and bounce ideas off each other. The front office is smarter than all of us combined and prove it day in and day out. How's your Villar, Braun, Lucroy package working out for us? Probably just as bad as my knee jerk fantasy lineups. Get over yourself.
