Happy 80th birthday Manny Mota, ambassador, all-time pinch hitter and one of the finest men I have EVER had the pleasure to meet and work for his foundation in the past.

    manny mota is the man
i'd put money down he could still walk up there and get enough stick on the ball to poke it between first and second
even if they had the shift on

I always thought Logan White was decent, but a little overrated. He delivered a lot of players who "had high upside but never lived up to it"... which if it happens enough it just means the guys weren't as good as we thought.

Then again, looking at our current team, Logan White drafted Kershaw, Seager, and Bellinger. He scouted Kenley, Puig, and Urias. He was in our organization when we first signed Turner. He drafted the guy we traded for Chris Taylor. And one of the first things he did in SD was convince them to take Kemp and give us Yasmani. So our team that went to the WS is basically all Logan White.

I always loved the guy growing up. Seems like he always got the job done when he came up to PH. In fact, I think the next jersey I get will be #11.

Back in the hippie days/world..."mota" was the name of really good African pot...so, of course, when there was a shipment available, "let's get some Manny" was the byword. A dealer I knew named his beautiful, biggest, red Doberman I ever saw, "Mota". Dog was magnificent, but was always contact high.
It was kinda like Cockney rhyming slang. You could talk about pot, but use a great PH's name instead.
Hard not to love Manny, on multiple levels.

    http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...trated-very-upset-tampa-bay-rays-recent-moves

Kevin Kiermaier sounded off on the Tampa Bay Rays' recent roster moves, saying he is "100 percent frustrated and very upset" by the team's decisions to part ways with All-Star outfielder Corey Dickerson and veteran pitcher Jake Odorizzi.

"I am 100 percent frustrated and very upset with the moves, no beating around the bush" Kiermaier told the Tampa Bay Times on Monday. "It's one of those things that makes you scratch your head -- you don't know the reasoning why. And then you see the team's explanation and still it's just like, 'OK well, so be it.'"

What about Longoria leaving for SFG? Definitely interesting. Of course, LAD tried to swap Puig for CF Jackie Bradley earlier in the off-season. Maybe they'll have interest in Kiermaier? 3 years of control with Bradley..6 years of control with Kiermaier at a decent price, is locked up all the way through his prime. Kiermaier is the better player as well.

Mota means mote. As in the mote in your eye.
In Mexican and Centra American Spanish it is the general slang term for pot.
Everyone in Southern California used Manny as a euphemism for pot.
So every time I read that part about removing the mote in your eye in the bible all I could think of was Manny Mota fronting the Platters singing Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.

Royals people have told Bob Nightengale that the organization is taking their ball and going home after the Hosmer deal with SD. They now plan to go into rebuild mode and will not pursue any other marquee free agents. This means to expect them to sign Jake Arrieta, Mike Moustakas, Lance Lynn and JD Martinez by the end of the evening(comment was started yesterday before I decided to drop everything and take the GF to the hot springs for the night).

In all seriousness, this was being discussed yesterday on MLB Radio and from what they were told, they said that the Royals could move fast to start unloading what they have left(which is a couple decent players). Dodgers in the past have kicked the tires on Danny Duffy, but his inability to stay healthy is probably a red flag. Kelvin Herrera is a FA at the end of the season and he too could be of some use, though his price tag is on the high side for a reliever. Other than that, the Dodgers don't have much use for what the Royals would be selling. Man, they have some bad contracts too...

Speaking of which, one thing that could be an interesting idea is Ian Kennedy. He is fucking garbage and if I remember correctly, a piece of shit to boot, but he could be an interesting player the club targets in a Kemp swap. Kennedy is owed $49M over the next 3 years($14M AAV) to Kemp's 2 years @ $43.5M($20M AAV). The Royals are said to be a club that the Dodgers have approached with the idea of taking on Kemp as they have an opening at DH, not to mention that the Royals have one of the worst farms in baseball. I wonder if the Dodgers could send Kemp and a prospect like Edwin Rios for Kennedy and something like $4M a year for Kennedy's 3 remaining years. In the long run it costs the Royals about $6.5M and what they are doing is buying a prospect with a projected WAR over his control years higher than that price tag and getting out from a bad contract sooner. The Dodgers are once again dealing from a position of strength as Rios is a projected 1B/DH(they also have more of these guys on the way) and end up shedding $10M in AAV while spreading out $30M over 3 years instead of $40M over two. Me just kicking around an idea, but will be interesting to see how Royals approach this now, especially with the Royals suddenly in tank mode as well.

JD Martinez closing in on a deal to sign with the Giants... Haha, now that I have you all upset, he's actually closing in on a deal to go to the Red Sox. They should be interesting to watch now as they may in turn try to move an OF'er as they already have 1B/DH covered.

Which is exactly what I go for almost every single time something comes out of my mouth or flows through my fingers.
My lyrical role model is the rhapsode game is the one and only GOAT Jesus Christ and that is how he rolled his rrrr's matey.
A cut has to cut deep or else it's just a superficial flesh wound. And you only cut the ones you love.
But no worries man, I don't deal in sticks and stones but knives and swords. So you know the cut will be a masterful stroke.
Sometimes I rhyme slow sometimes I rhyme quick. But everytime I take a cut I not only check once but check twice. 1,2...1,2.
This calls for wisdom, let the person who has insight calculate the 1's and 2's.
