We have little idea what the trade was for other then Callaspo, and there's still a chance something similar goes through.
It wasn't just Uribe, it was we don't need Callaspo and there isn't any attainable arm on that team that is good. Uribe also won the WS in 2005 and 2010 and it is 2015. It's his destiny...
let the FO figure out which arms are good, bro. did you know who Bolsinger was before this year? alrighty then. Uribe is a waste of space on this team now. Olivera is coming and Uribe's too old to be in an at best- Rojas type of role. he's still probably gonna be traded.
Only thing I'm thinking is that maybe a draft pick from the Braves was involved in here which would Make it so if they can't do it til June 15, the trade is much different. Also, maybe the Braves wanted for the Dodgers to eat Callaspos salary cause they were gonna DFA him and the Dodgers agreed to take him on, with the plan of DFA'ing him
rosenthal was saying we'd get mlb ready pitching which probably translated to someone like cahill we can do better
It was Callapso plus 5 minor leaguers though, that's a lot. Maybe not great quality but also, I don't know how great a return we could reasonably expect for Uribe at this point.
Most of their pitching is established and all of it besides Tehran and Shelby (the unattainable) is crap. Also they have Chris Johnson and that would just drive Uribe to the bench on a worse team, although that has absolutely nothing to do with my point.
DFA'ing Callaspo was probably on the list..or flipping him. they tried to get Josh Hamilton earlier in the season and flip him
i think this was absolutely the case a left handed hitting 2b/3b option sounds inviting but .206 does not was all about the draft picks and/or others involved we would have essentially eaten uribe and callapso's salaries to get the non-names we desired have a feeling it was all part of a bigger plan; accumulating draft picks/prospects to use in a trade for a upper level pitcher
well, they've gone the deliberate direction before..the whole one trade leading to another type of thing. i like that they're getting started early..they have business with the cuban youngsters in early July, so there's a lot of work ahead. i mean they've been crazy active all year long, but now they're getting started with the bigger names. it'll be interesting to see who follows Uribe out the door..i assume he's still gonna be moved at some point.
it's funny because at the beginning of spring who would have thought ethier or guerrero would be valuable trade pieces? if it were truly not about the money, i'd dfa carl and keep dre -- who seems to be out to prove all his doubters wrong... and so far he's doing exactly that that swing he put on the ball last night was a thing of beauty -- didn't overswing, just beautiful balance and timing will be interesting to see what happens when puig comes back but if svs continues to scuffle, dre becomes even more invaluable
... It’s not clear Callaspo would ever have had a chance to suit up for the Dodgers. Los Angeles may well have intended simply to take on Callaspo’s salary and then release him as part of the broader arrangement. Were that the team’s intention, which seems at least plausibly implied in Callaspo’s veto, he likely would have ended up a free agent (while remaining entitled to his full salary). http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/uribe-callaspo
It seems likely that the Dodgers intent would be to DFA Callaspo, seeing as we don't really need another 2B/3B (that's why we can trade Uribe in the first place). In addition to getting some prospects out of the deal, we may have also saved some money... But if ultimately that was the plan, I would think we could restructure the deal to not include Callaspo at all, and the Braves could DFA him. So I don't get it.
Well, if they DFA him they have to pay for him so if that was the plan, maybe the Dodgers have to find a way to give them the money to cover Callaspo's DFA? Who knows
Guerrero's value isn't really what some think it is because of his ability to opt out if he's traded, but as far as Ethier goes certainly. in a perfect world they'd be able to deal Uribe, Ethier, Crawford and Rollins. however, realistically, i guess they have a shot to deal two from that group. the Reds make for a good trade partner, imo. the Reds are still gonna have talented pieces left after they deal Cueto, so they should want MLB level talent as well. i mean Cincy can't really go into a full rebuild with Votto, Phillips, etc. aboard..Ethier might be a fit in some kind of 6 or 7 player Cueto deal that gets the Reds a mixture of MLB level talent and young players. sort of a ATL/SD Upton type of swap because the Reds and Braves are in similar places right now. Dodgers could agree to take on a struggling Marlon Byrd and then DFA him. some of Byrd's contract is being paid by the Phillies anyway.
Well, I hate when trades don't go through because I think the player involved, in this case Uribe, feels super weird and shitty. The only way that this is avoided is if Uribe was the one pushing for the trade, which I highly doubt.
Uribe isn't a fool (well, at least his agent isn't), he knows his time as a Dodger is short with all the infield options that have been and still are being acquired. I don't think this would have surprised him if it had happened and I don't think he feels weird, other than the weird feel that father time and an abundance of talent are squeezing him out.
Haha awkward. Nice try though, Uribe is essentially worthless in 2015 IMO. Replacement value at best.
