I agree, he shouldn't be hitting cleanup to begin with. But once you put him there, you're committed for the game. And you don't pull him in the 9th vs a RHP. FWIW, Puig would've struck out in that situation too, the only difference is it would've been on sliders away instead of splitters right down the middle.
You got a man on 3rd, and a chance to take a lead. Sure, Joc is having a good day, but he is literally not trustworthy in that situation. You take your opportunities and you work out the outfield situation because that is what you are getting paid the big bucks for. This can't be the first, nor will it be the last, time he or his staff is going to be faced with these decisions.
