Yeah you're right...1B is still my issue. No Hart, No Morales, no body that can hit like a regular 1B.
Nice job with Ned not allowing Theo to stick it to him. Theo has been trying to do it for years and has been trying to get revenge on Ned for stealing Eithier from his Buddy Billy Bean. He has always wanted us to overpay and was trying to get Hanley to flip to us or Oakland. Oh yeah we would have had to pay more than Oakland to get him. MLB network says when they come back from commercial they are going to cover why Dodgers didn't pull trigger on Dempster
1B is an issue of course, but it can't be solved right now, and couldn't be solved at the deadline. 3 hitters got trade.. Victorino/Hanley/Pence. We got Victorino+Hanley. Loney/Rivera platooning at 1B is SO much better than Loney starting at 1B and Rivera starting at LF.
If people are pinning all their hopes on Ted Lilly, I got some bad news for you sunshine... He's Ted Lilly, he really isn't that good at anything but giving up bombs.
one thing we CAN give Ned is that he has traded all the prospects that werent worth keeping (I think Edwin Jackson is the only mid tier, all others have sucked)... and not forget that Kasten is BIG on building strong pitching from within... I think that we are a better team that we were 2 days ago...
Carlos Santana springs to mind. And almost all other prospects were traded when their value was at their lowest.
Dodgers with that staff are 2nd in the NL in ERA. It's not a ace after ace after ace type of thing, but it's a solid, deep rotation. Watching Fife pitch is gonna be hard, but hopefully Lilly comes back sooner rather than later.
and they will be pushed to the 6th or 7th spot... Victorino Ellis Kemp Ethier Hanley Loney/Rivera Cruz Ellis
Time to look at big contract pitchers who could clear waivers and that could include Cliff Lee, we shall see.
Loney was well over 300 in July and seems to be doing a repeat of last year. Of course we don't want a hitter who only produces the second half of the season. If that is the case with Loney ok we don't want him back next year. But if it is the case with Loney and we are well into the second half of the season and he has started hitting we want to trade him now? His role in the lineup with the new additions is very different and the Pitchers especially Kershaw love him for his defense which saves them runs.
