Well, by 2014 you hope one of Joc or Puig is close to being ready. Can't count on prospects and neither can be counted on to tear it apart but it's nice to have two LF possible options from within the farm. That is what is going to be important for 2013/2014... Getting some internal pieces to use for offense or using those internal pieces for trades.
The fact is we need a leadoff hitter. BADLY. Dee may or may not be the answer. I am still stinging because Logan had me believing in the kid. Not so much anymore. Not impressive in any facet save his running. He SHOULD be our leadoff hitter but if he cannot be trusted, what is the fucking point. I have lamented that the Dodgers have been doing it wrong for years. We have tried to grow a team on mediocre prospects and supplement them with overage veterans. It has not worked. It had mixed results at best. The reason is simple. Our farm was not all that great and our veterans were past their primes. Now, we are in a position to fix BOTH. Because we have resources, we can rely on FA for a few years to get great players. The whole time we allow the farm to grow into a great farm. At that point, our best prospects become major leaguers and we can afford to trade a blue chip for a great piece when needed. Once that happens, you will always have a great core that you can build around from both premier FA and homegrown players. I could envision us using FA to fill our most pressing needs for another 3 years. At that point, most our premier prospects will be MLB ready or already there. Then, we can be the team trading an aging veteran for more pieces while fixing holes using FA.
Dude, I am not going to lie. That is EXACTLY what I did. I saw Carlos and a "G" and yeah.... I love the kid. I just do. Fucking frustrating.
No worries, we all do it. In regards to your rant about a leadoff hitter, I have just two words for you. Micheal Bourn.
Well look at this! I was wishing we were after this dude. From MLBTR The Dodgers' interest in Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez didn't advance very far as they weren't interested in giving up notable prospects or impact major leaguers, tweets Peter Gammons of MLB.com.
Idk why we wouldn't consider giving a notable prospect. I hope we were just playing hardball and if he's able to clear or we are able to win the claim, we can work something out. He's not the same player but he's Adrian Gonzalez and Loney is Loney.
