Y'all might have seen this already but I took time to peruse it this morning. Kind of interesting and definitely room for debate.

I have problems with Roger Clemens in the top 10, Ricky Henderson at 14, and Mariano Rivera making the 100 at all. A relief pitcher in the top 100 players of all time? Really? Yes, he was remarkable, his numbers sparkle, and he was the picture of domination...for 3 outs, most of the time. But to rank him ahead of guys like Ozzie Smith, Harmon Killebrew, Bob Feller, or Duke Snider is preposterous. And don't even get me started on why Shoeless Joe Jackson is outside looking in.

Clemens and Henderson are ranked fairly high, but I can see arguments for it. As far as Mariano Rivera, I agree with you 100%. There's no way he should be ranked in the top 100 all time when Roy Halladay and Don Drysdale are only honorable mentions.

I'm guessing the BSPN doesn't take into account (or care) about PED's???

Bonds #3? WTF!!! I do like the photo they used of him thgough. All skinny, small head, etc...

If you read the criteria it specifically states "only on the field" activity is considered. Drugs, rape, armed robbery, or 'mayhem' (as defined by certain insurance companies) is not to be considered.

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10251454/hall-100-methodology-mlb

    • We asked them to judge these players based purely on their on-field performance and only consider their performance in MLB. And because we based our ballot purely on stats in the American League or National League, we did not consider players who only played abroad or in the Negro Leagues.

    • Reminder: There is no character clause. We do not care if they might have gambled on the game or taken PEDs. Nor do we care if they devoted time and money to charity. Again, this is only about performance on the field.

Well this list is shit then. PED's effect your performance on the field, duh... Not to mention Barry's hat size...

So your saying any list ever made should arbitrarily calculate the affect of PEDs to earn your business?

No, but in baseball yes... IMO the integrity of the game revolves around numbers. If you are going to compare these numbers over generations, you somehow have to find a way to compare apples to apples. Being drunk or hung over, popping whites, or cocaine pales in comparison to PED's...

The sad thing is that many of these PED abusers might have made it to the hall anyway. Their ego, as they aged, got in the way of making sound decisions. As long as Shoeless Joe Jackson and Pete Rose are kept out, none of these cheaters should be allowed to join the party...
