McCrook is a tool, he couldn't give a shit what fans think of him... The ONLY way it plays out is if/when he figures out that he can make more $$ upon his exit by signing Fielder as opposed to not signing him. If he sees that he can make coin then its settled otherwise he's a puto...
Well it sounds like a lot of these "experts" think that a Fielder signing will bring down the sale of the team. So, I think we're kind of screwed. Although if more writers think about it (like Buster Olney did), I'm sure that would put some pressure on McCourt.
Any deal like buying the Dodgers calls into play so many intangibles that high dollar money guys work through that make little or no sense to most of us. The speculation that Fielder signing a $200M contract can be viewed as making the Dodgers 'worth' $200M more ... or... some portion of that $200M less if the new owner isn't a big fan of Fielder. If Fielder is seen (rightly) to making the Dodgers more of a playoff contender then someones perceived value of the francise grows whereas if he's signed and the new owner thinks 'that's not enough to contend' then he marks down the value of getting Fielder because he'll have to spend more immediately befor the Fielder fruit rots on the vine. If you're a real estate tycoon and only care about real estate then getting the property and ringing Chavez Ravine with high price high rise luxury condos might add value, if you sell hair products for overweight afro bearing spokesmen then... Who fucking knows what some of these uber rich clowns are thinking other than it has little to do with ticket or beer prices. Or what we fans want...
I wouldn't count on Frank to do this - he's history. Back to Baaaston, Bozo! (ugh, no offence to Bozo). The glory of signing Prince Fielder must be reserved for the new owner.
^... Yeah seriously what did Bozo ever do to get compared to this thief? He was a stand up kind of clown!!
Oh, and also, if the Rangers can't sign Darvish, then we're fucked. Lol. I think we have a good chance though if they do sign Darvish.
At least if the Rangers get him the Anals are fucked The Rangers have decent enough arms, and offense can get you to the playoffs.
If the Dodgers make the playoffs and play but 4 games at home: $40 (avg ticket) x 40,000 = $1,600,000 x 4 =$6,400,000 This is without merchandise or concessions. If you figure an avg of 50$ per person.....$8,000,000 -- together they equal = $14,400,000. That is for 4 games with only 40k buying a $40.00 ticket and spending $50 bucks each for concessions and merch. When extrapolated out, Fielder is paid off in the second round of the postseason even without selling out the stadium. Yes, he is worth it.
Except Frank doesn't get a dime, so unless Fielder holds out until we have a new owner, that may go out the window. But even a scumbag like Frank has to realize how good signing Prince will make him look to the fans that didn't really care what happened behing the scenes. And it will make hardcore fans like us forget about him since instead of such a mediocre team we'll be bitching about, we'll have a team that actually looks like a contender.
Just like other teams interested in Fielder the Dodgers may be having conversations with Boras and like other teams consider the price outrageous.
