A surprising number of baseball executives think that the Dodgers will ultimately be in play for Prince Fielder, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. LINK
It wouldn't surprise me if some of the bidders that make it through tomorrow submit multiple bids. Including one that includes Fielder.
http://www.federalbaseball.com/2012...ationals-rumor-roundup-prince-fielder-chatter A good read on the status of Fielder with multiple mentions of the Dodgers. That is a possibility as the process moves forward and the teams get narrowed down unless multiple teams do it. But certainly possible.
The following occurred to me and it may or may not be possible. McCourt/Ned could offer Fielder/Boras a 1 year deal worth 26 million. Poof, he becomes the highest paid player in baseball. There is a contingency stating that the new owner can add another 5 years @ 19 per if both sides agree in the form of a mutual option. This allows Fielder to make an informed decision and decide if he wants to try his chances with next year's FA class where there is a lack of hitters. Some will question the validity of giving a Loney a 6+million deal in light of Fielder but there are options. He could move to LF and platoon with Rivera. Loney/Rivera brings out the best in both. Loney could also be spell Prince at 1st when the need arises. He could also be trade bait if added to a pitcher. It is possible, should be hit, he and another player could bring us a legit INF option can hit consistently.
Jim Bowden is reporting what most of us knew. the nats are going after him and now have started talking deal. no deal now but IMO he is all but theirs. good fit.
The longer he stays a free agent, the more I think we have some involvement in that. I can't help but think Fielder has signing hesitation because he wants to be a Dodger. It's a tough pursuit if that's what he wants, but he certainly has the right agent to make that kind of magic happen.
Sad is that I know that Prince will NOT be a Dodger this year. Pathetic is that I keep checking to see if I am wrong. I fucking suck.
The Nats were smart. They played crappy players for years and collected first round picks. They used those to acquire players and cash (and kept the best ones). They also took revenue sharing and other moneys and put it aside. They also know that they will be bailed out if they get in trouble.
Their owner is pretty damn rich (as are most owners in the MLB)... Not really about the business of the Nats and how they've been getting money the past years but more about the owner being a rich mothafucka and not being afraid to spend it (presumably)
Seriously. Kemp and Fielder batting back-to-back? I would be so giddy. But I'm not very optimistic at this point.
don't lose faith just yet fellas... Prince Fielder Rumors: Tuesday By Ben Nicholson-Smith [January 24, 2012 at 10:34am CST] One GM wonders if agent Scott Boras will wait until outgoing Dodgers owner Frank McCourt picks a winning bidder for the club, ESPN.com's Buster Olney writes. Boras could then sell the incoming owner on Fielder before the sale of the team becomes official. It's a risky strategy since Spring Training is just a month away and the intentions of the new owner aren't yet known.
