Part of me feels like if they thought it was bad, they would've traded for another ace.

I hope it's something minor that a 15 day DL can fix, but I agree with this. Kershaw/Ryu/Hernandez/Correia does not inspire confidence.

Stranger things have happened, but Kershaw/Grienke is a perfect combo.

    Yu Darvish clears waivers
    Updated: August 19, 2014, 1:30 PM ET
    By Calvin Watkins | ESPNDallas.com

Staff ace Yu Darvish of the Texas Rangers cleared waivers on Monday, according to a source.

The Rangers could now (theoretically) trade him and -- considering his huge contract -- an opposing team would have to take a substantial amount of the remaining years of the contract to make a deal happen.

The Rangers are 48-76 this season.

Team officials don't comment on players clearing waivers, however, a move is interesting with the Rangers looking for high-quality prospects.

Darvish is currently on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow. He is eligible to return Aug. 25 at Seattle, and most likely would have to throw a pain-free bullpen session to pitch in that game.

On the season, Darvish is 10-7 with a 3.06 ERA. But he struggled in his last start, Aug. 9 at Houston, giving up six runs -- five earned -- in four innings of work during an 8-3 loss.

The club signed Darvish to a six-year, $56 million deal in 2012.

"huge contract"? he's got one of the best contracts in baseball, lmao

I would take him in a second, but he's not getting traded.

We would have to take on all of the money owed to Darvish and probably send an additional $50+ million to Texas and some damn good prospects. I highly doubt they trade him. :(

Stanton is not a FA until after the 2016 season so who knows if we'll even have the specs for him at that point. Joc will probably be a major leaguer already and Seager will likely be in AAA while Urias will be so good that it would be a crime to trade him. The Marlins have over a year to get him to sign long term even though it's not likely that the fish will be able to pull it off. As Jim Carrey in d and d said, so there's a chance!! Remember this as well Guggs is still staunch in their stance not to trade our future and not to pay as much as they are paying in salary for much longer. Not saying they won't spend but some contracts have to be shed before we can even entertain the idea of adding a guy who will surely be making the most money in all of baseball.

I'd bet money on the Marlins dealing him. I don't see how he would want to sign with the Marlins. It's a two man show with him and Fernandez, and I don't see him wanting to be a part of that.

If that's the case, we would've put a claim in for him. He cleared waivers, so that means there are enough questions with his current injury that he's considered a risk.

Give Darvish a billion dollars, Kasten. Any amount he wants...just for the sake of it.
    Damn chump change.

It just occurred to me that this Greinke elbow thing just fucked me. Literally hours before I heard the news about the rotation shift I had purchased tickets to the Sept. 9 game which was supposed to be a Kershaw start but now he'll be starting on the 8th and I get Dan Haren for the 3rd time this year (1-1). It didn't even cross my mind when I first heard the news. fml.
