He could've said "We'll see" or "I don't wanna talk about the future"...which is what people who intend to leave would say. If the Dodgers want to keep Kershaw they will. Bottom line.
I dunno. Somehow I feel more confident about the Dodgers keeping Kershaw than I do the Lakers keeping Howard.
Yup, the best thing to do when we're on a losing streak and mad at everything and depressed is to make a thread that will make us even depressed and angry.
Clayton Kershaw, perhaps the next-best candidate to get 300, would need to average upward of 18 victories a year for the next seven seasons to keep pace with C.C. Sabathia. At 25 years old, Kershaw has 64 wins – barely 20 percent of the way there, with more than a decade of potential injury landmines awaiting, which goes to show how difficult 300 truly is. The 24 members of the club break into four distinct groups. There were 11 pitchers who hit the mark before 1925. Over the next 56 years, only three joined them: Lefty Grove, Warren Spahn and Early Wynn. From 1982-90 came a barrage: Gaylord Perry, Tom Seaver, Steve Carlton, Phil Niekro, Don Sutton and Nolan Ryan. And somehow the five-man-rotation era spit out four more between 2003 and 2009: Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Randy Johnson. Kershaw shares some qualities with them. Like Carlton, he's a left-hander who debuted at 20. Like Johnson, his strikeout-to-walk ratio keeps growing and should land at higher than 3-to-1. With another dozen victories this season, he would be sandwiched among a group of Maddux, Clemens and Sabathia who were all between 75 and 81 wins after their age-25 season. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/10-degrees--prestige-of-300-win-club-remains-unharmed-in-ped-era--060144671.html __
I don't agree with the sentiment that Kershaw is somehow better than the rest of the team. A team is one unit. You win as a team, and you lose as a team. If we have a losing team, then Kershaw can only be defined as a loser. What happened to those patented ass-slaps? Why hasn't he hit a HR since Opening Day? Where's the 3B he is scouting in Zimbabwe? Someone needs to ask these questions.
Wow, so I'm watching ESPN this morning and they flashed the filthiest stat I've ever seen in my life. CK needs 1 more out to have the lowest ERA through 1000 IP since 1920, at 2.73. He's an absolute fucking beast.
^yeah but... The Dodgers, though, are fourth in the NL hitting .263, with Adrian Gonzalez batting .382 during a 10-game hitting streak while Matt Kemp is riding a 12-game run. However, the team's .223 average with runners in scoring position has contributed to it ranking 28th in the majors with 129 runs scored, and Kershaw (3-2, 1.62 ERA) has felt the brunt of that lack of production. Kershaw has been especially dominant lately going 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA and 21 strikeouts over his last three starts, but the Dodgers have lost his last two while scoring three runs combined. The left-hander's 2.10 run support average is the worst in baseball among qualifiers, as Los Angeles has scored just 13 times in his 55 2-3 innings on the hill. __
