Isn't having a premier hitting tool considered having a possible career average over .280 spread over 5 seasons? Was always told that, maybe I'm wrong.
I somehow missed this post. You think it's picky? I just think you need to be good in the five categories, not great in 4 and average in 1(Trout and Harper). And as far as Puig, we don't know what he'll do do we? So far he's way higher than we thought...but falling fast. Good question about the BA. .300 is pretty dang rare for a career hitter without roiding or something. I doubt you'll find a 5 tool player you know is clean that would exist at .300. I'd say .280 is a fair "tool". A .280 career hitter is a pretty damn good hitter IMO. Just like where do you draw the line for HR? so I'd got about 20 HR per year to have that "tool". So IMO A 5 tool player needs. *.280 BA *20HR *A good throwing arm(maybe some higher than most assists numbers, a feared thrower, judgement call) *A good fielder(total judgement call again) *20 SB (or at least great speed on the bases +15SB)
I was thinking Trout because of the park CarGo plays half of his games at, then I remembered CarGo's arm is ridiculous compared to Trout.
i'd say judging power solely on home runs is unreasonable.for instance, manny machado isny't a home run hitter but considering his xbh's i'd say he has power
Maybe a year ago when Ethier hadn't yet plummeted offensively and Seager hadn't quite broken out yet.
It really isn't. A very average hitting and solid defensive outfielder, a top 75 overall spec (Lee), and the Dodgers #5ish spec is nowhere near worth a top 5ish 3B, who just so happens to be 25 years old, extremely cheap, and under team control for a long time. Something like this might have worked before the season started but with Dre's descension and Seager's ascension, it just wouldn't work or come close. imo.
I was leading the charge for trading Dre and my top choice was K. Seager. Don't act like you're the only one who wanted him. I believe there was people saying SEA would not trade Seager for Dre, that we would have to do better than that. I don't think many people said he was bad, but instead said that we'd have to up our offer.
