He is as cheap as chips, and still a solid player. However, plugging him in at left, third and even second is taking AB's away from younger, and potentially better players. Defensively he is becoming sub-par at second, let alone playing him out of position. Ship him for an upper echelon BP arm under team control. Ultimately, I think it would do us more good short and long term. This kind of thing is what teams like the Padres are made for.
At the very least I think he needs to (a) only play 2B - no more LF and 3B and (b) platoon with Utley at 2B (Chase is slashing .318/.426/.471 against righties but only .133/.188/.200 against lefties; Howie is .267/.313/.300 against LHP). If we can move him for anything that would be useful, then I'd be okay with it. Kike is in a bit of a slump now (like everyone else I guess), but his splits are still slightly better against LHP than Howie. I doubt Howie has much trade value at this point though.
i like his contract and think he's going to put up solid numbers before its all said and done good guy to have around as well
He's taking AB's off Kike at second against lefties. He's taking AB's off Trayce in left, he's taking AB's off Kike again at third. Our main power threat in Joc is basically in a platoon to find Trayce And Kike regular AB's. I don't think he's much of an upgrade over the two younger guys. Crawford is far more of a cockblocker than Howie, but Howie could get us a nice piece IMO. Two years that cheap for someone with name value? Could net us a nice return. I understand he's the kind of player you want around. In decline, but the definition of consistency. But when a fifty seven year old Utley plays ahead of you... Seems like a waste.
He's got no business in LF for sure. I would agree with Kike if I thought he could be an everyday player. I don't. The more he plays, the more he's exposed at the plate. I still like him as a super utility man. I don't think you get anything for Howard (Howie is a kid's name) until around the deadline when teams are desperate to add veteran pieces. We obviously all agree on Crawford. That'a a slam dunk.
It's hard to gauge though. Kike, like HOWARD, hasn't had a chance to play everyday and establish himself at the plate. I thought last year when Kike got an extended look everyday due to injury (and before his own injury) he absolutely looked the part. He's swinging way to hard after burning Bumgarner a couple of times this year. Honestly though, no way Kendrick should be taking so many utility spot starts away from Kike.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts made a not-so-bold proclamation before Wednesday's game against the Mets: "I believe Howie Kendrick is not going to hit .170 this year." lolz and in a related story... roberts said ben carson will be elected president, isis will surrender peacefully, gasoline will be free and kevin hart will be funny
Thing is he's hitting it right now. I can understand giving Howie some at bats against a team like the Padres to try and give his confidence up, but this is the god damn Mets.
I don't think you get anything for Howard (Howie is a kid's name) _------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's what you get when you show up for the season with the middle of your head dyed fucking orange. "Howie" is better than "stupid asshole", right, Dog?
3-4 more weeks of Howie hitting under .200, and the thread title is going to be edited to change "Uribe" to "Old Yeller"
