i get his point just fine they traded for reddick so of course he's going to get every shot shot to prove himself just like they gave adrian and turner who were both struggling in the beginning and even though you want to play the reddick is injured card, you ignore the fact he was hitting .297 in oakland prior to the trade puig has been given years of time to prove his worth [on the field] and has done well for the most part but again, for the umpteenth time, his demotion was predicated almost entirely on everything but performance he's even acknowledged addressing those issues himself the sum of any team's parts are greater than any one individual's he seems to be getting it why not you?
reasons aplenty he's old he's broken he's got a pea sized noodle he's a spoiled prima donna he was shit before he was broken he's clinging tenaciously to the concept of being relevant.. and he's not The FO will do what the FO will do.. Ethier is still owed nearly $20M for this year so no sense tossing him aside quite yet... however the Andre Ethier train has left the building on squeaky axles and a fuelless deisel and may not even make it to OKC
Eric Stephen over at SB Nation talked about how yesterday's lineup was LAD's " regular lineup ", as in what you'll see VS RHP going forward AKA most of the time. Puig gets starts VS LHP, so he'll play less. It's gonna take a while for Puig to earn back the everyday trust of this org and that's the way it should be, the Los Angeles Dodgers are not candyland, they're one of MLB's crown jewels and need to operate and function as such. However, of course he may end up on another team before he regains his former standing. Also, we know the business enough to know that the LAD FO didn't give up Holmes/Montas/Cotton just to turn their backs on Reddick after a bad month of play. He will play and a lot.
Are we talking about the same Andre Ethier that hit 294/366/486 last year, has done pretty much anything the team has asked of him in the past years, and has a decent arm?
so far from shit that he was platooned Umm OK just go with that he's 34+ and returning from a season off. No fucks shall be given when / if he gets an AB.. no faith granted either
Look it's OK to be fanboys but realistically how many outfielders come back after 35 from a broken leg? might as well of broken his hip
if you don't like him just say so but as doyer alluded, he was one of our top hitters last year right up there in production w/howie and turner
you are the only one here that keeps saying that his demotion was not about performance most others here say it was performance related they have said this in response to you saying it isnt about performance many times dont you remember? many people here say he sucks with the bat and thats why he was demoted nobody dismisses the non performance angle btw, we all agree there is something there that is a big issue... but you dismiss the performance angle which others dont puig btw addresses whatever issues he believes he is supposed to address, while it may be true its not necessarily a point of argument the dude has to say the right things if he wants to be back on the team its very possible the whole demotion was more a combination PR thing and wake puig up thing since puig had never had to work the bus circuit in AAA now that hes had that taste in his mouth maybe the idea of just doing what you are told and being a good soldier that says the 'right things' when interviewed instead of just 'being me' the FO long view may be that Puig is a keeper and so they are willing to sacrifice some of this season and punish him hard with demotions, BS media stories, and trade rumors to harden him up and mold him into the type of pro player they want him to be for the rest of his career in other words really breaking in the wild horse so he can be a stallion not just a stud
Not saying that LAST YEAR wasn't Ethier's renaissance year. then there is this year.. the one we're talking about and the broken hip or leg now the cane and the hobble in cool weather while platooning made worse by age just the writing on the wall talking boys don't take it personally crowded outfield and there are many other competent bats
tell me you're fucken kidding me people here have been talking about it since day 1 and it's been all over social media that's what his demotion was about he's even acknowledged it himself just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there
Puig's young and exhuberant and a potential MVP level player Ethier is old and broken and a platoon player at best
You specifically said he was shit before he was broken then made some assumptions on his ego and need for relevance. All we said was: he was damn good last year and there's a good chance he is capable of being a useful player this year and what follows. As good as before? Nope. But useful, sure. We weren't really saying he was going to be an MVP candidate or anything, and he could also likely not be useful but sure seems like you're being condescending for no reason
It could very possibly be that Reddick will turn out to be Ethiers replacement. Reddick is like a younger version of Ethier. Both good against right handers but fail against left. Both have the capability for some decent power when they are feeling good. Both are either more injury prone than the normal player and/or have a history of injury plagued seasons. Both are good in the field with Reddick having a better arm. Both are white guys
WTF? I just acknowledged it in the very post you quote and i do all the time i see and acknowledge all sites of the Puig situation you completely ignore that many and most here on DSP point to his PRODUCTION as the main issue with Puig nobody ignores his the other stuff we talk about at length and speculate on the many things it could entail even to the point of jokingly wondering if he had sex with someones wife you dont see the other point, ignore it even when you quote it, and obviously never acknowledge it which is weird
that and the roster limitations if he hit lefties then maybe but another gimpy righty hitting only OF is not what the team sorely lacks
Although on the surface it seems true, not crazy to think we could improve from the production versus righties that Howie/Utley/Reddick are currently giving. Howie/Utley have about a .750 OPS against righties. Ethier will be placed on the bench more then likely, cause he won't be ready for full time action without an entire spring training, but... Crazier things have happened
