Rube - Did you actually say progress over 29 years? Really? Come on now. Like I even need to say it. Calling getting to the post every once in a while but ultimately losing before reaching the WS progress is in lock step with the AA Definition of Insanity. This off season it's obvious once again that we need reliable and healthy quality pitching, Let's see what they do and if their grades change by spring. Hate to say it but I fully expect to be pissed, again, and hope like hell I'm wrong, for once.
Honestly though, I make a blockbuster trade with Seattle sending Verdugo, Deleon, Bellinger, Barnes, Puig and cash for Felix Hernandez, Nelson Cruz, and Kyle Seager. I re-sign Turner, Blanton, and Kenley. Sign AJ Ellis, Bartolo Colon and Doug Fister to one year deals. Move Kyle Seager to 1B and have Kendrick play 2B. Trade Adrian Gonzalez to San Diego for Kevin Quackenbush (because I like the name). Opening day lineup Toles LF Seager 1B Seager SS Cruz RF Turner 3B Pederson CF Grandal C Kendrick 2B (Same lineup vs righties or lefties, none of this GD platooning) Rotation: Kershaw Felix Urias Fister Healthy Tommy John recovery of the month Pinch Hitters: Ethier AJ Ellis Kike Bartolo Colon Bullpen: Blanton Quackenbush Dayton Fields Baez Kenley WS here we come... wooo!
That makes sense. You guys were powerful for so long before and haven't won it all in a long time. But I'm pretty sure you guys will be in the mix every year going forward. These "nerds" know what they're doing. It just takes a while to get everything in order. People are now praising the Cubs like Theo and Maddon turned it around overnight. But there were so tough years after Theo took over. But people overllok that because we were bad for so long.
That would be a major overhaul. But why would you want Bartolo Colon? He pitched fairly well against most of the league but you guys, us and the Nationals owned him. I would think you'd want to continue facing him.
I agreed with your original statement though. The Lakers have given some weird entitlement to LA fans.
You have your opinion....and it's as good as anyone else's. They have been one of the best teams in baseball for some time now. And four years in the post is quite fine...being annual losers every time is not. The future is brighter than we see you say...I truly hope you're correct. But really it would take winning a WS, to be honest. We can get to the post... been there, done that... however, we don't get to the series. He surely is a great pitcher, definitely. But he's not the best pitcher I've seen. The one I saw excelled in the post season, and on into the World Series. That's just how it is. That's how it was. That, hopefully, will not be how it will be, but the " wait till next year" thing of yesteryear is as as fresh as ever for some Dodger fans, probably a certain amount even the ones who pretend they're satisfied with being " elite losers".
Somewhat. But some of us were Dodger fans when anything less than a Series title was a disappointment.
It's annoying to see teams like the Royals, Cubs, Mets, and Indians go years without even 1 postseason appearance and immediately jump into the WS while we continue to make the playoffs and experience heartbreak after heartbreak while falling short of the WS. How do those teams rebuild and get there so easily after being so far off while we are close year after year but can't get there?
Absolutely never mocked them for being nerds, who run the world essentially. And yeah, I do want them to be real, bona fide geniuses, because I want to win. So what? But admonishing a poster priodically and telling him he shouldn't have and not to post what his opinion is, whether you agree or not, immediately after you spout off about having legit opinions, is total hipocrasy on your part. A continuation of your ongoing "step into line and don't say that any more" , because it sucks I say, policy. I think much of what you write sucks too, and is douchey and pompous, but it takes all kinds, blah, blah. It reads to me like you are on a power trip, much of the time, and instead of the periodic dress down because of what a poster believes or how a poster feels about a failed FO, no matter what he calls them, is bullying bullshit. Big fucking deal if I call them geniuses... as you so didacticly instruct and inform- it's baseball, isn't it?. Big deal if I call them nerds or geniuses or scumbags...it's not like I wrote something about your family or loved ones, is it? It's some millionaire guys who are in charge of my team and who continue to lose. You keep on using "progress" as a catchword now...what progress have we made? Not calling them nerds is progress? This is not self help website...( like welfare) It's baseball. !That's my take on it, like it or not. That's right...F if they fail, A if we win. When this thread was created, was there a caveat about what mark you were supposed to give,or allowed to give...like " no Fs and no calling them geniuses all the time, because I think differently"? It's baseball, right? Your personal attack on me, which is exactly what it is, because I bitch about not winning and call them what you don't want me to, imo, sucks and is what I can get from a 14 year old (using your words) who is put in charge. And what is notable, imo, is that there are posters on here that I am a cockeyed optomist in comparison to, but nary a word from you to them. Makes me feel like you just like picking on me Rube...if I didn't know better, of course.
I would have been elated at an appearance in the WS...just to get in. To me, that would have been some real progress. Yup.
Well, part of that is cherry-picking the teams that happen to make it. There are also teams like the Nationals, Blue Jays, Pirates, Astros, Orioles, and A's who make the postseason and have gone nowhere. Part of it is luck, not just in the postseason games themselves but luck in being healthy (see SF Giants). Part of it is going all-in at the trade deadline, mortgaging the past and future for a real shot, such as the Royals trading for Cueto or Mets trading for Cespedes. The Dodgers don't do that. When is the last time the Dodgers gave up real talent to acquire an elite player at the deadline? The best rated prospect we've traded in the last 10 years is DHing in the World Series right now, and that wasn't for elite talent, that was to be cheap. No Hamels, Prices, or Halladays for us at the deadline. With McCourt it was because our prospects weren't good enough, now it's because our prospects are too good. The Cubs don't really belong grouped in with the others, they are built differently, they are built for the long haul. We are building for a future like the Cubs, or at least that's what they tell me.
here's what gets to me all the talk about the postseason being a crapshoot not shooting that concept down entirely, because a hot team can beat a better team but more often than not, it's just not the case... • there's a reason the giants won three times in five years • there's a reason the 90's braves went five times in nine years • there's a reason the 90/00's yankees went six times in eight years and it wasn't luck they were the best teams the dodgers are not the best team we can play the crapshoot card for getting by the nationals but talent trumped luck when we lost to the cubs i know it can't happen overnight there's still a couple years of bad contracts to recover from but with all the money guggenheim has and rakes in annually from the dodgers... there's simply no excuse for not putting the best team on the field every year after 2018 so let's hope for our crapshoot odds for the next couple years and then focus on actually being better after that btw, good teams get hot and lucky more often that poor and average ones just my
