idiot bring it bkitch BIG LEAGUE STEW Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick on Dodgers:"We owe those guys" Mark Townsend | Big League Stew -- November 9, 2013(USA Today) Six weeks have passed since the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated their NL West division championship by jumping the fence and swimming in the pool at Chase Field. For Arizona Diamondbacks managing general partner Ken Kendrick, though, it feels like it only happened yesterday. Or at least that’s the vibe you might get based on Kendrick's comments to MLB.com when discussing Arizona’s season-opening series against the Dodgers in Australia.Kendrick: I think it's going to be a lot of fun. Australia has never hosted the beginning of a Major League season. I think games were played there, from what I've read, 100 years ago. I wasn't around then, albeit some would think that I might have been. So to go there where baseball is really growing, to go to a country that is very sports-minded and to have the season open against the Dodgers, is all the more exciting. MLB.com: Your rivalry with the Dodgers, I'm sure, has increased over the last year. Kendrick: It has, and you know, we owe those guys. I think to get the opportunity to begin the payback for them winning the division the very first day of the season is a great opportunity for us.On the surface, not exactly controversial or even fighting words, but you could easily read more into them. The Diamondbacks know they can't truly pay the Dodgers back for the division championship with one or two wins in late March. That would have to come over the long haul of a 162-game schedule. However, they could 'pay them back' for a few things they didn’t really appreciate about the 2013 season in a pitch or two. If they wanted to, that is. This isn’t to suggest they’ll come out of the gate head-hunting, but six weeks or six months won't be enough time for the hard feelings to subside. And remember, the tension goes well beyond the swimming pool incident. In June, the two teams were also involved in a wild bench-clearing melee that resulted in eight suspensions. "We owe those guys" can be taken many ways, and if something a little questionable were to happen early on in a game... well.(AP)We'll just say there are going to be multiple combustible elements involved when the Dodgers and Diamondbacks meet in spring training, then again in Australia, and then again back stateside during the regular season. At that point, all it takes is a spark, and sometimes a spark comes from just a few misinterpreted words. __
I'm sure that there will by a memo from the commissioners office about the teams behavior while down under. Ambassadors of the game will have to refrain themselves from acting out.
I read this article (or one similar) a while back and at the top it read, "I predict that, over the next five years, the Dbacks vs. the Dodgers will be the fiercest .500 team vs. winning team rivalry in all of sports." http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/11/08/dbacks-owner-on-the-dodgers-we-owe-them/
So if the Dfags win the first game of the season, that makes for the beginning of paying back Dodgers winning the division in 2013? So what if by chance the Dodgers win it again? Are they going to have to beat them TWICE to open 2015 to get payback for back to back division titles? This could get ugly adding all those numbers up.
I don't understand what's so hard about just saying, "We know they beat us last year, but we're gonna do all we can to win the division next year." This is one of those moments where all you need to do is shut up and work on getting better. Who's their public relations manager?
Now Gibby's got a hurt pussy, such a shame. Kirk Gibson is mad the Dodgers didn’t send bigger stars on MLB promo tour to Australia By Mike Oz | Big League Stew – 2 hours 45 minutes agoGood to know a relaxing November hasn't calmed down the boiling rivalry between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers. No pools were involved this time, but D-backs manager Kirk Gibson did fire a missile at the Dodgers this week. The Dodgers and Diamondbacks will be starting the 2014 in Australia, playing a two-game opening series there as part of MLB's continuing efforts to globalize the game. To get the Aussies excited about this, both teams have had players visiting Australia since the season ended. The D-backs, though, if you listen to Gibson, have done better than the Dodgers by sending MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt and breakout pitcher Patrick Corbin. In an overall fired-up interview with the Arizona Republic, Gibson implied the Dodgers didn't send good enough players.“I’ll give you an example,” Gibson said. “Look at the guys who went down (on a goodwill tour of) Australia for us. Why did they do it? It’s who we are. It’s who the Diamondbacks are. We’re committed to the game of baseball. We’re committed to the community. I’ll put our organization up against anybody’s in terms of doing the right thing. “We had Goldy go down there, along with Patrick Corbin and Derrick Hall, our president and CEO. Who’s the other team got down there? Are they too (expletive) good? Honestly?”The Dodgers sent catcher A.J. Ellis, who isn't the biggest name in their clubhouse, but in his defense, is one of the most likable guys in baseball. He's great at TV interviews, and he's probably just as good at representing his team and MLB in a foreign country.Sure, he's not Yasiel Puig or Clayton Kershaw or Adrian Gonzalez, but as Dodgers blogger Chad Moriyama points out (he's also a bit fired up), the Dodgers stars have other things going on.Clayton Kershaw is in Africa. Yasiel Puig is DESTROYING THE GAME by working with kids. Matt Kemp is recovering from surgery. Hyun Jin Ryu is back in Korea, probably de-stressing from being around insane Americans. I mean, I guess they could send Adrian Gonzalez, but he’s busy in Disneyland with his daughter, and who else would even be recognizable? Do you really want Zack Greinke doing PR for your franchise? Good lord. The retort neglects to mention that if the Dodgers sent Puig to Australia there's a decent chance he rides a kangaroo and never comes back to America, choosing instead to live in the outback and become a modern-day Crocodile Dundee. The bigger issue here is that it's another instance of someone from the D-backs waving their finger and tsk-tsking the Dodgers, which, if you're a Dodgers fan might be tiresome. But if you're a baseball fan, it's kind of fun to see a new rivalry building. The two teams had an on-field brawl in June. Then, of course, there was the swimming pool drama. Earlier this month D-backs owner Ken Kendrick said, "We owe those guys." Kendrick is also the guy who, in April, forced Dodgers fans who were sitting in premium seats at Chase Field to change their clothes. If things keep up, this will be great for Australia. They're going to see two teams fuming at each other. Mike Oz is an editor for Big League Stew on Yahoo Sports. Have a tip? Email him at mikeozstew@yahoo.com or follow him on Twitter! __
:crying: the last time kirk gibson said/did anything relevant was 1988 don't worry gibby, our stars will be there when it counts so for now, go fuck yourself
I'm 100% positive most people don't even know who Patrick Corbin is... It's just silly because the Dbacks are making themselves look so desperate for a rivalry. I don't think anyone from the Dodgers has said anything at all. Haha.
hey gibby we're the dodgers we don't need to send stars... people know who we are, we have global recognition we're the globetrotters, you clowns are the washington generals so stfu and take your beating bkitch
