I agree. 6/160 would be my limit in-terms of guaranteed years and money. However, it wouldn't shock me to see them offer 8-10 years $200M+ for two reasons: A) No one will match it and B) they can afford it. With the $4B TV deal coming, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see them land Hamilton at the above price and go get Greinke at 6/130-140.
the contract would probably suck and then of course you'd have Hamilton go into prolonged slumps like the one he sorta broke out of. he was flat out awful for a month straight. do we really want that?
Look at the numbers, he went through a prolonged slump and is still top 5 in HRs and 2nd in RBIs, that tells you when he is rolling, he is godly.
I wouldn't even go 6. We have Puig in the minors who is going to make 42 million dollars to sit behind Hamilton for all that time?
Move Ethier to first. They aren't gonna not pursue one of the 3 or 4 really good OFs because Puig might be good.
Well considering Ethier is going to be complete shit in a couple years I really don't think it matters.
If Ethier gets all these complaints for 85 million and a slump for not being a better 2nd best hitter (his fault everyone sucks), can you imagine 160 million for Hamilton and when he goes through a slump? That'd be fun.
A more important question is, where will Kemps glove be? If anything, Ethier has improved his defense the past years. One of the few players who actually improves his defense going into his 30s. Kemps defense is going pretty bad, especially if he can't run like he use to. His one asset on defense was that he was fast so he could make up ground but if he can't do that anymore, then what happens?
I don't think it would suck to have the 2 best players in baseball on the same team, and a 5-tool SS who could bounce back to elite level.
That is one reason why i've advocated for Michael Bourn as opposed to Hamilton, i'm just playing out a scenario that I could very easily see happening with Hamilton and that it wouldn't be the end of the world.
a Hamilton contract would scare me simply for the offield troubles but would make our lineup beastly. 2 a guys and 2 b guys in ethier and hanley . I think the team will pick a trade option to avoid having to give out another 7 year deal
Mr. Colleti, Mr. Kasten and I have already had discussions about this upcoming offseason. As of right now, we have no plans to go after Hamilton. The market for Hamilton will be fairly strong, and we are not willing to sign another outfielder long term, in turn blocking Puig. We plan on having Puig in the outfield, along with Andre and Kemp in 2014. Currently, our focus for this upcoming offseason will be starting pitching, and adding a reliever. We plan to upgrade the 1B position, but are still unsure as to whether or not that will come via free agency or trade. In addition, we'll explore bringing in a left fielder for the short term, possibly by re-signing Victorino. With that said, however, plans are always subject to change.
I'd give Hamilton a blank check if it meant 4-5 years. I'd easily do that. BigDaddyKaine is taking the Ethier stuff to a whole new level lol. Don't group be in that campaign. I think he's underachieving, might have injury resulting in less power, and just isn't the guy I want hitting 4th next season if it can be avoided. But I am not turning him into Vernon Wells. Ethier is just an overpaid player out of necessity to both parties. We NEED Ethier. And paid to keep him.
I said in another post on here that I'm extremely disappointed in Ethier and that I'd likely take this current hatred to an extreme. lol
Dre is a HUGE concern to me because he can't hit lefties for shit and he is a key component in our offense! What he makes is really irrelevant to me. I think we will re-sign Victorino and I don't see Dre converting to 1st
